Lineup advice for a ATGII Rookie

This is my first stab at ATGII and I'm curious if any of you grizzled vets could offer some insight to my team. My home field is Dodger '77 and the others in my division are:

Briggs '40
Yankee '56
Forbes '09

My positioning is a little on the unconventional side, with Jackie Robinson at 3b and Frank Robinson at 1b. Kuntz/McBride will platoon in RF with Vince in LF.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Your starters would be good in a pitching park, not good for Dodger. Too many #HR. Even Scott may struggle. Relief is a little thin, as Fingers is not good enough to stand alone, or even with some help most of the time. There are better options than F Robinson at 1B in ATG II. J Robinson is good, but you have plenty of OBP guys. I would go for some power there, or maybe move him to first. I would never use Coleman unless I was trying to break the SB record. Battey is OK behind the plate, but there are usually better. Ditto McBride & Koonz on the OBP issue. With Morgan and Speaker, I think you need guys to drive them in rather than get on base in front of them.

First, welcome to ATG world.

Some of the advice I would give you must be contexualized by the fact that players have different injury risk factors. Specifically, anybody with 600 or more combined hits and walks can only be injured for 3 games maximum. Players with less than that can be injured up to 15. What line a player's injury is on makes a big difference too. Most have them on the 2 or 12 line, some the 3 or 11(including most catchers), the point being that the closer that line is to the center, the greater the probability of an injury. Some players cannot be injured at all. On your team, Frank Robinson's injury is on the three line. He will get hurt more often, and can go down for a long time.

I like Frank, but his injuries will be a definite problem for you. Coleman's obp will not allow you to really make the most of his speed in my opinion. I think that you should dump them, get a better lf, and either move Jackie to 1st and get a 3b, or keep Jackie at 3rd and get a 1st baseman. Speaker, your RF platoon and your middleIF are all good. Templeton is redundant because Banks cannot be hurt. Dump him and get a nickle backup for Morgan just in case he ever gets hurt, which will only be for a maximum of 3 games.

With Yankee 56 in your division, you will need a left-handed power hitter. You don't want to build your team around yopur opponants, but you do need some offense that is "portable" players whose game translates anywhere. Build your team to take advantage of your park, but you do not want to be totally mismatched on the road in other words.

Dodger 77 is a neutral park not extreme hitter or pitcher, and depending on what other parks there are in your league, you may have too many bp homeruns in your rotation. Hunter will cause you a lot of pain especially. If you do the upgrades I suggest in left and the infield corner, look for power, I don't think that you have enough, and see about getting some starting pitching with fewer bp homers on their cards.

Good hunting.

Let me preface my comments with the disclaimer that I have not read the other posts, just your initial post.

I like your staff. Good staff for Forbes or Griffith. However, you are playing in Dodger 77. I would dump all of them except maybe Knowles.

Coleman is OK in a pinch as a DH. But his defense is not good and you won't see it except when you wonder why your team ERA is higher than you expected. And he can't steal first base...

An argument could be made for Frank Robinson in left. But a 3e25 at first base coupled with his double risk of injury makes him a very poor choice. I also like Battey alot but in small ball parks. You want guys who hit ballpark homers in your lineup, not on your pitching staff when you play in a park where 60% of the ballpark homerun effects turn into homeruns.

Banks, Morgan, Speaker and Jackie Robinson are a solid nucleus. You may regret McBride only because of his poor arm in right field.

As currently constituted, you would be very lucky indeed to win 75 games. IMHO.
