Any ideas on the best bats to nullify the advantages of yankee and dunn? Guys who hold up against lefty pitchers in that situation? I was thinking Ennis, Rosen, Cleon, Boog ... any others come to mind?

The [b:d09c949e3a]best[/b:d09c949e3a] bats tend to be lefthanders who hit well for power both ways, especially for Yankee 56. That way they take full advantage of the ball park effects.

I would think the principle would be similar to the kind of team you want to construct if Yankee 56 was your home park. In a frenzy last night I ended up in Huntington. My division opponents are two Busch '64 and Municipal '54. I had the worst draft I ever had in a frenzy, lost my top three picks Ruth, Mantle and Aaron. Instead got Combs, Reggie Jackson, and Strawberry. The only picks I got were Fox and Schmidt.

So making the best of a deplorable plight, I was able to grab Gehrig, Pete Alexander and Campanella in the Frenzy, pretty much before anyone did anything. Then I went through some convoluted gyrations to concoct what I now have. For example, the only pitchers I retained from the draft were Frock, Worrell, Osinski and Sambito. Again, uppermost in my thinking was being competitive in the three lefty-friendly homerun parks in my division.

Medwick is my dh. He is one of the prototypes for anti-lefty parks. He's righthanded but only has 4#'s so he doesn't lose as much on the road. At the same time his secondary average is still very impressive. I also traded Jackson and Coveleski for Ott and Mogridge. Normally this would be an incredibly stupid move. I actually prefer Jackson to Ott and Coveleski is significantly better than Mogridge and normally an outstanding value. But Jackson is weakened by facing lefties and Ott isn't. And with all the lefties I'll be facing, both on the mound and at the plate, Mogridge should have a better year than Coveleski would have. I was especially cognizant of Brett in the evil Frank Bailey's lineup.

Schmidt at third is a fairly standard kind of player for my park and who also should hit OK on the road. But despite Schmit's 3L Mathews would be a better choice, hearkening back to the logic behind my choice of Medwick. So Schmidt is like the Dawson's, Carter's and Valentines of ATG III. An obviously anti-lefty park weapon but not necessarily the ideal choice, unless the lefties you'll be facing are of the Merritt variety. Anyway my team probably still sucks but hopefully it served as a useful example in illustrating a couple of points relevant to your question.

I have always been surprised how successful the lefty parks are, but they remain among the most successful because the ball park effects seem to overwhelm the opposition. I mostly have pitchers teams so this would be my strategy if I am in a pitchers park:

Hitters that hit lefty pitchers are VERY cheap.

Jesus Alou card has a BA vs lefties at .530 for 730K great fill in or pitch hitter

Chet Lemon in Dunn 0.466 BA 0.720SLG 0.520 OBP
hits lefties better than Mel Ott 0.374 BA 0.606 SLG 0.542 OBP

A Chet Lemon/Cesar Geronimo gives a great defense/hitting platoon against lefty divisons. An alternative is a great LH power defensive CF such as Doby or Snider on the expensive side

Additionally great OBP hitters with a slight lefty bias are very good

At Dunn
Wagner 0.448 0.661 0.534
Chance 0.417 0.559 0.520

Sam Rice is a good lefty for RF in pitchers parks as he naturally hits lefties better than righties 0.423 0.542 0.450

FOr catchers the same circumstance arises for Mickey Cochrane 0.407 BA 0.540 SLG 0.495 OBP as he hits lefties better than righties as well.

Additionally I like switch hitters that hit lefties better because in the lefty ballpark if they throw a righty against my team then the LH singles help is there if a lefty pitches then have the natural increase bias Pendleton 0.374 0.436 0.408
at 3B and Doran at 2B 0.340 0.425 0.407 .

Joe Jackson 0.464 0.649 0.533 is always a good choice for not too much money, if I can't get him Riggs Stephenson 0.455 BA 0.671 SLG 0.541 OBP
is another outstanding value to smack lefty pitchers anywhere that fits a small ball mentality.

Since most of this hitters are relatively cheap that allows an unconventional staff where you can add Lanier and Hiller and if you need a hard lefty more than that Ojeda while still having 2 or 3 good righties.
