Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Thu Mar 30, 2006 12:13 am

My first time in ATG 2. Here is my team. I went for speed, good whip and OBP. Do I have a chance?

Stadium-Griffith

Line up

Devore/Wilson
Robinson 1B
Morgan 2B
Henderson LF
Bench C
Devore/Wilson(Bell 3B in hitters parks)
Wills SS
Chance 3B (at home and other dead parks)

Starters L Relievers R Relievers
Young Eastwick S Pierce S
Seaver Fingers C Pina C
Drsdale
Nolan

Am I a moron or a genius or just OK?

Thanks

I'd keep Morgan, Chance, Young (if it is Cy), Seaver, Drysdale, and Nolan. There should be a LOT better options out there for the others.

Rickey and Bench have WAY too many ball park HRs for Griffith. Jackie at 3rd, Morgan at 2nd and Chance at 1st is good. You need a better OF.

What do you mean by Ricky and Bench having too many homers for Griffith?
I figuered most teams would have a gajillion HR hitters on their rosters, so Griffith would slow 'em down and otside of Griffith i could still hang (due to Bench/Henderson).
I also wanted Bench since it seemed he was the best at throwing out baserunners and that would keep him off my opponents teams (I also have Dempsey for what it's worth)- was that a poor idea?
Does a catchers throwing ability have a reasonable impact on stealing?
My outfield does blow(although I think Ricky is pretty good), but what are better options for the price?

I think what he's trying to say is that at Griffith you need high OBP instead of HR's . Bench will get hurt ALOT . You can get Lollar for 2M cheaper and put the money into something else .

Bench is a good hitter but not a great value in any park, especially in Griffith - slow, terrible clutch, and not a great average to begin with. You can afford one hole in any lineup, and Dempsey at catcher would work.

I agree that you always need some pop, but the key is to look for guys with more natural home runs on their cards.

I like Chance at 1b, Morgan at 2b, Robinson at 3b, and Wilson in CF. Look for guys in LF/RF that have natural HRs like McCovey and Aaron, or a ton of XB hits like Musial. Wills isn't terrible at SS, but there could be better choices with 1 range like Concepcion, Peckinpaugh, Chapman. Wills just doesn't have the OBP to lead off, has a 2 range and 26 errors.

Lose Pierce - he's awfully anywhere.

I like your rotation.

Bench won't get hurt a lot. He only has 1 point of injury on his card unlike most other catchers.

The notion behind the "too many homeruns on their card" for
Griffith has much merit. You pay a premium in salary fot those # hr's; all of which are outs in your park. I'd use Battey in Griffith before Bench if you want a catcher with a good arm. Dempsey if an offensive black hole.

On the other hand, if your opponents' ballparks are # friendly, it sure wouldn't hurt to have Henderson in the lineup.

I've never used Wilson - and have no plans to ever use him -- and am not a great Devore fan although I have used him. I wouldn't bat Morgan third either. He's great in the 2 slot or 1 slot but his strength is scoring runs, not driving them in.

I've used Wills many times. Here is a current example. My team actually started with Chance at 1b and Chapman at SS. Both went down for long injuries so I got rid of them and got McCormick and Wills. The results have not been entirely unsatisfactory so far.

You gotta keep Wills! And I would get Kling if available at catcher, if not, perhaps Sullivan, then set the team to very aggressive stealing, base running, and hit and running, and let them fly. Cobb would be a welcome addition. I have had these Rabbit teams before. One won 96 games, but the first guy I draft for them is Cobb. I think Morgan and Henderson are overpriced generally, but they fit well on this team. Chance is an excellent choice at first, of course.

A little support for Bench. Not exactly Griffith, but he can put up numbers. This team went to the Finals...but lost of course!

Reggie didn't do too bad either.

For the record

Postby CHRISTIANSTOUGH » Sat Apr 01, 2006 12:16 pm

I don't have Chance, I have Evers; i get 'em mixed up(that damn chant).

Robinson is my 1st baseman, Bell and Evers(currently riding pine- do you realize that guy has 0 strikeouts) are my 3 baseman.

Curently, after 12 games, I'm in a three way tie for first.

I'm 1st in BA, 2nd in OBP and 3rd in ER, 1st in SB; of course.

My starters are rockin, but my pen is getting hammered- fortunatly after the game is already a blowout.

Henderson has played like a god (5 homers/500 OBP), Morgan is 3rd in runs scored, and Bench leads the league in double (he's been hurt 11/2 games)

Wills- en fuego

Thanks so much for the advice.
