Waivers question...

Waivers question...

Postby Munich_Man » Sun Apr 09, 2006 7:30 am

I'll try to be clear..

I want a certain player at a position, but have a fallback player if my first choice is taken, I definitely want one of the two, but not both. I set my waivers priority as follows--

1. Acquire Mays, drop Combs
2. Acquire Snider, drop Combs
3. Acquire Musial, drop Cooper
4. ...
5. ...

I know if Mays is picked before I'm up, my waiver picks will move up in priority, i.e #2 becomes my first pick. My question is, if I do acquire Mays, then does my #2 WW request disappear because Combs is no longer on my roster, and my #3 request then becomes #2 (As I would obviously want) or does my claim for Snider remain my #2 request, but is unsuccessful since Combs is not on my roster, thus forcing me to lose out on my 2nd round WW request and lwering my chances significantly for my later WW rounds?

I haven't seen anyone address this, but I think it would be great to know. If I need a CF and there are three possibles out there, and I list all of them and have the same player dropped so I won't end up with all three, does that then destroy my chances of acquiring any players in the other rounds?

I hope I explained myself clearly enough.

Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't KNOW MM, but if I had to GUESS, I would think the game would still try to honor your #2 request. So, if you are fortunate enough to get Mays, I think your #2 pick (Snider for Coombs) would be wasted. It's a good question. Hopefully, someone who has actual knowledge will answer. :)

The real question here: what is Mays doing on the waiver wire?

To answer the original question, I believe that your #2 pick becomes null and void (since Combs would no longer be on your roster) and your #3 then becomes your #2. Providing that you still have the funds available (and the player is still avail), you should then get Musial in the second WW round. Then you may sit back, crack open some of that German beer and wait for your championship to arrive approx 2 months later.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that it would happen that way. We may never know, since Musial probably will be gone in round 1.

Good luck!

Sure wish we could get some IF-THEN-NOT logic built into both the draft process and in waivers.

sure would be great to have more control over the whole process.

For that matter, sure wish TSN would build Penn's live draft software into the game.

LIVE DRAFTS RULE!

Just a hypothetical , wouldn't want to give my WW strategy away! :D

I just started my 100th team (although I have 4 inactive teams at the moment) and decided to hop in a public auto league to celebrate. I have third WW pick and there are some nice options on the wire, just don't want to get screwed in subsequent rounds. I just thought of this while setting up my waiver picks. Never occured to me before. Certainly would be good to know.

You would try to pick up Snider as well. Despite having lost Combs in your hypothetical, you will get Snider IF the $$$ is there. If not, you'll see it reported as a failed claim due to lack of funds in the Waiver Details.

Waivers are straightforward and do not work like Penngray's proxy system. It is not an If-Then setup.

Beach is correct, I've had it happen that way.

If the player you want is not available, the pick is void and it's on to the next player on your list, just like we all think.

If the player is there, and the $$ are there, the claim is processed. Not enough $$, and the claim is passed over. You don't need to have the dropped player left on your roster for the claim to work, just enough open salary.

Good luck.

I'll third that. If the player you have slotted is still available, you will try to pick him up, but odds are you will fail because you don't have enough cash and your pick will be wasted.

I think the answer to this is yes. IF you pick up Mays I will assume you will not have enough money to also pick up Snider. SO in the second round Hal will list as invalid I believe and you do not get a second round pick until all other players have a second round pick. So you will not get Musial most likely. When the thrid round comes HAL willThen your 3rd choice will process if possible. I do not believe you are assured of picking someone up in each round. Only to try and process a player. The obvious solution is why in the world do you want Mays? You have done better with MICKEY [size=9:21122dd3bf](Stanley)[/size:21122dd3bf] You know he hates you!?? Please reveiw your teams for any expensive CF's whose firstname does not start with the letter "J".

The whole Mays scenario was a purely hypothetical situation...

Although I may reconsider Mr. Mays in the future... sure rocked for me in our 12-season league. with the #4 team picked, no less...
