I've got a team starting play tonight , @ Fenway '46 . As of now I have Frey at 2B . I need someone to lead off . Is Frey good enough for this job ? Options are slim pickens . Doran is out there but have never seen him do well . Dots Miller maybe ? Garcia , Scott, Wiggens ? Or stay with Frey ?

Given those choices, I'd probably stick with Frey. But, I don't think he has the OB to be a leadoff guy.
You should post a link to your team.

If you could post your team that would make things easier, but I would say that Frey is defintely not a lead-off batter. The options you put out aren't any better though.

Were it my team, I'd pick up Doran, he'll give you more speed, better defense and similar offense. Neither one will set the world on fire offensively, so you may as well go with the "1" as 2B, especially with a "2" at SS.
FWIW, I would lead off Pesky with Yaz batting 2nd (high OBP, low DP's).

Say Rich don't I play you in the playoffs tonight ? I always hated the way the season ends and then there's no more manager names listed . Are you No Pianos On Our Backs ?

A couple things if you don't mind some constructive criticism.
First things first, I think Pesky is your leadoff man--not Frey.
I would seriously consider trying to find someone with a 1 defensively at second. With Pesky's 2 and another 2 at second base, thats a lot of balls bouncing through the infield (too many for my taste). I don't know who is out there but I would take Frank White or even Hobe Ferriss.
Also, I am not sure you pitching staff is going to perform well in that park. Nolan, Boyd, and Bell are prone to giving up the long ball and you are giving them 11 chances in twenty to do so. They are good pitchers but just not sure they fit.

White has an even lower obp than Frey and can go down for 15 games . 2 reason's I don't want to go there . If I go get Doran then I have to get some money . I was trying to avoid that . BUT what was said makes sense also . Of the pitchers, the one I worry about is Nolan . I could get a few dollars out of him by getting Morris .

Doran is in and Frey out . Nolan gone , Morris in . Going to bat them like this :
Doran
Pesky
Simmons
Yaz
Hank
Eddie
McCormick
catcher platoon

I don't think you will find too many fans of Jack Morris on these boards. If you want to downgrade one of your starters, I'd consider Lew Burdette as an option. He isn't a stud by any stretch but he is servicable.
