Lineup Confusion/Questions

I'm a bit confused with this lineup. I have Robinson & Keller 1-2, but would Clemente or Yount be a better fit there, even with the DP's on their cards? In this lineup, would Rippers neg clutch come into play too much as the #3 hitter? Some of this I like to figure on my own, but I like to know what others might do with this lineuup anyway. Thanks for any opinions

Not sure how this team is doing, but you are very exposed to cheap hard RHs like the Can and Drysdale here are your numbers:

OBP vs RH 0.391
SLG vs RH 0.465
OPS vs RH 0.856
HR Rate vs RH 2.8
BPHR vs RH 28
OBP vs LH 0.443
SLG vs LH 0.495
OPS vs LH 0.938
HR Rate vs LH 2.3
BPHR vs LH 24

Aaron in CF is VERY dangerous to your team ERA.

That said, here is one idea on how to bat them:

vs LH/RHs
Jackie
Keller
Yount/Aaron
Aaron/Yount
Ripper
Clemente
Gibson
Maz/Evers

Or you could hit Ripper 4th and flip-flop Yount and Aaron 3rd and 5th.

Where are you playing?

I play at 3 rivers. I was a bit concerned about playing a 3 in CF, as I always play a 2 or 3. I know in the 200X game "D" makes a difference, but not as much as we think, at least based on the chances per game. I'll see how my ERA is going after about 40 games and see if changes are warranted. I figured that I wouldn't be that susceptible to RH's with Ripper, Yount & Aaron who hit everyone and in most any ballpark. I have to face a Dunn and another team loaded with lefties in my divison so having a team favoring LH pitching shouldn't hurt me too much. (BTW, how do you come up with those numbers? Is it a special program, disk, etc?) Thanks as always

With respect, not sure I agree with some of your statements:

- Yount is great, but clearly is much better vs LH than RHs, especially OBP on the LH side (.379 vs .504)

- Defense is the most UNDERATED factor in ATGII. With all teams having great hitters and good pitching (for the most part) defense becomes critical - learned the hard way by me having played Aaron in CF

- The data is derived from the cards, send me an email and I will forward you a spreadsheet (developed by others, forget who, but mucho thanks, trey I believe?)

Best of luck, sschu

Thanks Schu!

Your advice is usually on point, especially in Y56. My pitching is the worst in the league but its too early to tell if that 3 in CF is costing me. Not too long ago I saw a thread about trying to disprove the theory that you need 1's & 2's up the middle to have a competitive team. Anyone remember that? Someone had comeup with some basic tenets of winning ATG baseball, but someone else set out to disprove the theory

FWIW - IMO:

P & Def teams always seem to do well - make playoffs and can do some damage when you have 2-3 stud SP's going in a 5 game series.

I'm trying right now to replicate teams that won rings for me and see how they do now - I realize there a million factors/variables that have/will change, but I'm interested in seeing if I can build the same team same park and see what the results are now.
