Players out of position

The other night in two playoff games I had Jimmy Collins injured at 3b. The injury happened the night before. My backup 3b is Sammy Hale, yet in BOTH playoff games HAL started Jamie Quirk at 3b. Well Mr. Quirk does not play 3b. Why would HAL play someone out of position when there was a perfectly decent backup at the primary postion?? Quirk did hit a homerun which contributed to a victory so I shouldn't be complaining, but does anyone know what HAL's logic is on this ?? :?:

Quirk does play 3rd base. Look at the top of his card. It says,

JAMIE QUIRK (bats: L) -LF, C, 1B, 3B, RF

Is Hale listed on your managerial settings as a defensive sub ? If he's the one you want coming in then put him in there . If you don't check Collins card to remove him then he will stay in the game but Hal will know that Hale is the guy you want coming in if there's a problem .

That is very interesting Danielz, and something I had never noticed before. Although it DOES show Quirk playing LF,C,1B,3B,RF, there is no fielding rating on his card for 3B or RF???? :?

Very strange. You would think if he can play them, he would have a rating! :wink:

Another case where HAL shows his infinite wisdom, as Quirk hits a HR and you win the game! GO HAL!! :)

I never noticed that either. I always just looked at the actual "card" itself, not the extra info at the top. And yes it would be nice to know his fielding ratings at that position. Also I didn't want to put Hale as a defensive sub because HAL might pull Collins who is a "1" for Hale who is a "3" in a late inning situation and Hale would boot 3 in the ninth costing me a precious victory !! Thanks a lot for the input. Much appreciated !

I remember seeing this on a thread a long time ago on the old boards ( which are still there by the way ) . If a player plays out of position he goes to the worst rating . If you haven't clicked Collins to come out of the game on his card , he won't . :D
