i dont think the opposing argument is to eliminate points awarded for making playoffs, making finals, and winning championships...
its just the magnitude of the award that is in question...
for a star event it goes 25+10+15=50 additional points
perhaps it should be something like 15+2+3
honestly i think it should be 15+0+0 but no one really likes that one...
in any event, the bulk of points awarded should be for making playoffs, as opposed to winning it...again, we should be trying to reward skill here, not luck...current structure rewards lucky mediocre managers...
lets just not make the same mistake that baseball has...that first 3 out of 5 series is irrational...completely...baseball does it because of scheduling and tv isssues, neither of which we have...TSN made the poor decision to make first round of playoffs a 3 out of 5...so be it...but why should we award mediocre managers who happen to get lucky and win a 3 out of 5? maybe give them a small bonus...but something like 25 points? its irrational...

You're still operating on the premise that the playoffs are all luck...they aren't

in other words, according to cristano, a season win should be worth something around 1.1 (1 for a win, and 15 points distributed for teams making the playoffs) and a win in the finals should be worth zero. :roll:

My 2005 Playoff record (mostly in vet/theme leagues) is 12-6 in the semis and 11-1 in the Finals. It's almost statistically impossible for that to be attributed solely to luck...

guys, honeslty im fine with any format...truth is, i dominate, regardless...im right at the top of the tour in average tour points, win pct, rs/ra, playoffs made...
i was simply saying that in my opinion, less points should be given than the 50 available bonus points for winning a star championship...thats all, just a suggestion to make things better...

You dominate because, unlike most college kids when I was in school, you focus on a stupid on-line game instead of drinking and chasing skirts! The rest of us "older" guys would probably saw off a finger to get back to college and I think I speak for all of us when I say we wouldn't be playing SOMO! :P

Of course, if cristano were not benching Schilling in favor of Odadis "superstar" perez when game 5 of the semi-finals is on the line vs a team that has Mauer on the DL, perhaps he too would start to believe that playoffs aren't all about luck after all....

Don't know about the playoffs NOT being about luck. In a short series anything can happen.

If you build your team to CRUSH your divion but get mismatched in the playoffs then it's doom for you. Took a 104 team into semi's last week and got swept quite handily....so I agree some skill in advance scouting is needed....but......

Just won a WS by shuting out my opponent in games 5, 6, and 7 - last 2 on the road in Wrigley - vs a 6/2 RH hitting team and throwing Rev RHP's in 2 of those 3 shutouts.
...don't tell me there is no luck in a short series.
