i thought we were expecting more projections, this time for the west. i'd like to know if anybody's going to emerge alive from this dogfight: so far we've got a he!!uva race going on.

ps - i like[i:157a3158c3] my [/i:157a3158c3]pitching staff best. all i need is some "normal" innings from the bottom of the pen and I'll be set.

[quote:d5fd57f98f]Jeter and Helton still appear as players not worth their pricetags[/quote:d5fd57f98f]
I still don't think you guys have enough love for Helton & Jeter, but in any case, I drafted them for other reasons. Helton used up a bunch of my cap, so I could collect the cheapie value guys that [b:d5fd57f98f]luckyman [/b:d5fd57f98f]was oogling over. As for Jeter, I don't have to back up the shortstop position, so I only have to carry 13 batters. Thus there is "hidden" marginal value in both players.

I got cute in middle rounds of draft and grabbed Lowry & Alvarez - both turned out to be wasted picks. I deliberately spend a lot on pitching and expected to be near the top of the league in ERA - so I'm pretty horrified that my staff is stilll dead last.

As for "value" of pitchers - yeah, thanks for complimenting the configuration of my staff. The plan is to get effective innigns from the expensive guys. BTW, I've got [b:d5fd57f98f]Ramiro Mendoza [/b:d5fd57f98f]rated as one of the top value RP's. Am I the only manager who likes Mendoza? He f'n wails every time I put him on my team! :P

..........................................

I don't have a comment on how good Eric Chavez is as a top of the order guy - I'm just waiting for [b:d5fd57f98f]Spicki's[/b:d5fd57f98f] pitching to collapse - by midseason, I think the [i:d5fd57f98f]miggies [/i:d5fd57f98f]will look like their tossing in a slow-pitch softball league! 8)

hopefully my pitching collapse coincides nicely with my offense actually finding an offense.

My 2 cents re [b:b54c408b05]spicki's[/b:b54c408b05] team: I agree with [b:b54c408b05]marcus[/b:b54c408b05], Chavez has at least 2 strikes against him as leadoff. If you want to see what a real leadoff 1-2 combo should look like, check my team...I've always wanted Abreu/Beltran, with sluggers behind them...first time I've got them together...will be fun to see how they finish.

I don't quite agree with [b:b54c408b05]Riggo[/b:b54c408b05] re the pitching collapse...mainly because the [b:b54c408b05]spickman[/b:b54c408b05] is playing in an almost neutral stadium, not Coors...I think he'll drop a bit in the pitching stats, but with all his good relievers (plus on pace for 220+ IP from Benitez), I expect his team to finish in the top half at least in pitching stats.

However, the "neutral" stadium also helps neutralize his sluggers...so he'll have a lot more trouble coming back from his SP deficits at home, and his SPs will indeed get killed in the hitter parks...but his sluggers will also have a better chance to come back. Overall a wash is my guess.

Bottom line: I definitely agree with [b:b54c408b05]uncle ny[/b:b54c408b05] that we have a dogfight in the West!

As for Mendoza: last time I checked, he was on a pace for more IP than any other reliever in the league. I almost took him myself, for all the lefties in my division. But as long as he keeps giving up runs by the bushel, I hope [b:b54c408b05]Riggo[/b:b54c408b05] can squeeze him for 400 IP! :P

...you mean Benitez is on his way to over 300+ innings.

But what can you do: apparantly, spicki likes it when Benitez comes in the game and allows 9 runs in 2 innings on his third straight game without a rest, followed by a fourth consecutive outing in which Benitez turns a 4-1 lead to a 5-4 loss...

Well, in all justice for spicki, Meadows got hurt for 8 games in the series.

Still, looking at spicki's relievers, it's pretty obvious how he set up his bullpen instructions, and with the kind of starting pitchers he has, he is playing with fire.

It is still early in the season, but I believe that the pressure is defiinitively on him to perform. He ends up with a great draft----"I drafted four 1st-rounders" as he himself said, including a 3rd-round Many--- he has a stellar bullpen; he gets surprisingly good pitching from his starters, and yet, he is not able to dominate the league.

Still early in the season, but the time has come for his team to step forward...

i dont know what to tell you guys...i have conservative relief, 2 starters slow hooked, and no starters quick hooked. i wish my starters were going more than 2 innings each game too. with benitez set in the 8th and 9th innings and not to come in in blowouts i only expected like 150 at most out of him at most, and i figured if all my starters averaged even 5 innings per game that i would be in fine shape with 4 nice rp's.

as per me having something to prove here...i dont think so. i was ranked 11th coming in here, so if anything i see myself as a major underdog. especially with the likes of mr. autoleaguer champion ([b:362a0c4424]cristano[/b:362a0c4424]), mr strato (from what hear -- [b:362a0c4424]riggo[/b:362a0c4424]), mr ratings system and analysis beyond compare who needs a real life ([b:362a0c4424]luckyman[/b:362a0c4424]), and mr big-mouth ([b:362a0c4424]woods[/b:362a0c4424]), the competition is pretty severe and a little turd like myself should end up with a 70-win team, dontcha think?

lastly, the worst part of all of your guys criticism, is that my team is currently 1 game back of best record in the league and is underperforming like it's it's job. so [b:362a0c4424]luckyman[/b:362a0c4424], when you venture out to make statements like the above statements you made, at least get a few things correct first. first off get it through your head that your team is mediocre, 500 (+/- 2 games either way) at best and is just overperforming. secondly, dont think my team will play this sh1tty the rest of the year, and by sh1tty i am still owning this league.

now that i have cursed my team, im done talking.
