Playoff Change for 2012 Tour?

I think that we can all agree that one league has a lot of random variation in it. The finals are represented by 2 of the top 10 regular season managers (number 8 and number 9). Do you think we can move to a playoff format similar to Barnstormers, where the top 9 seeds [b:87279ddf08]automatically [/b:87279ddf08]make finals and then the next 36 play in a semis, where the 3 world series champions also move on to the finals? It seems to me that we would want a finals representative of the best 12 managers in a given year (which is better measured over 6 seasons than 1 random season). I understand that some randomness exists in any playoffs, so we might as well make it in the finals rather than the semis. I feel Barnstormers works much better in their current format, and strongly urge the tour to make the same changes.

What about the top 4 get to go to the finals and 5 through 28 play in the semi's with the 4 playoff teams from each going to the finals.

Personally, I'd just as soon have just a Championship League, with the Top 12, just the way we started. But I know more people want to be involved, so I like Cristano's idea, to a point. 45 just seems like a lot of qualifiers to me. I'd rather just have one 'play-in' league, with the three division winners going to the Finals. Or the Top 10 qualify, with the next 24 playing and the champions advancing. Just my thoughts, today.

So,
Top 9 qualifiers with 3 world series champions in 3 leagues
Top 4 qualifiers in with top 4 playoff teams from 2 leagues
Top 12 qualifiers play in championship league
or a compromise from all three suggestions
Top 8 qualifiers with top 2 playoff teams from 2 leagues

I like this in theory but I think that once people realize that they have no chance of getting into the top 12, they will drop out of the tour. I think we should be able to meet in the middle somewhere to assure that some of the top performers in the Tour receive auto-bids to the Champions League.

in barnstormers its top 9 get a bye to the finals, and 10-45 play in 3 semi leagues. winner of each world series gets a spot in the finals. i think it makes for a great balance between keeping everyone interested, and rewarding the best teams at the top.

Yeah I was just looking at that the other day. I think that is the best option. It really isn't fair that guys who are top in the Tour for months, just receive the benefits of being in an "easy division". That is not much of an advantage IMO. I'll discuss the format with Bernie, but I really like what the barnstormers is doing.

I'd say make it Top 6 with the final 6 coming from the semis, just seems more balanced
