Resting Starters for Playoffs?

Postby sphilipp8 » Thu Sep 21, 2006 7:46 pm

I have clinched the best record in my league. The second place team in my division is only one game out of the wild card. I play the second place team tomorrow night in the last series of the season. Do I sit my starters to avoid injuries in the last series or do I play my full lineup?

I'm pretty sure I'll play my full lineup but I'm curious what you guys would do (or have done).

I would rest all the starting hitters you have that have less than 600PA for sure. You don't want to lose a starting player for the playoffs in a meaningless series.

Rest 'em...you don't want to start a 5 game playoff series with a key player serving the balance of a 15 game injury...right??

REST THEM!

Pitching is key in the 5-game semis. Have your best dudes available.

Wow. It's unanimous to rest the starters. I thought there might be some kind of "code of ethics" to try and win the final series to knock that team out of the playoffs. I guess I'll rest my studs.

Thanks for the input.

I tried to rest my players for the playoffs, and sat the wrong ones. I lost Jeffrey Leonard (who was doing very well for me) for 15 games or until game 5 of the finals.

Echoing Jerry's sentiments

I tried resting my weary 4-man rotation after pulling away in my last league, and promptly saw my fifth pitcher take a 15-game injury.

I actually asked this very question three years ago in a 2002 league. I even asked if there was a code of ethics involved in trying to beat someone even if you have nothing to gain and everything to lose (15 gamer). It was unanimous, rest everyone who does not have 600 plate appearances.
