Hoyt has a couple of years that are going to be problematic in Fenway -- '86 and 84 (though '84 is a usable year). In '84, he has a high triple rating on 5-4 and a NPHR on 5-6 (at 1-18). Scary (but that's only if you get '84. '86 is just plain mediocre.
I don't dig Hoyt's Hits-innings at all. I'd rather he walked a few more and give up fewer extra base hits. However, he seems to me to be the better value. His best years seem better than Doyle's, and even his usable poor ERA card ('84) is strong against RH's. Both pitchers are good GB pitcher's (often with two GB-SS-X's in profitable locations).
Personally, I don't dig either of these guys. Too many hits allowed. I'd rather they walk a few more, since you can only advance one base on a walk. They are both serviceable pitcher's, however, for their price range. Hell, get 'em both and see who does better! :D
