On the Subject of Tough Divisions

I was in that league with abnerdoubleday and I am the Gems in Outta Leftfield's league. That got me thinking I always seem to be in tough divisions.
Six completed leagues and 1 current. 2058 wins and 1674 losses as a division. Thats a .551 winning%

OK...the Spartans screwed up, but check the competition in my division. I won the wild-card on the 2nd tie-breaker!! Then won the championship from Abner's 108 win team. It was incredible.

The tough division I was talking about at the start of this thread remains very tough. At game 144, despite having what I think is my best team ever (Cats2), with a .632 WL percentage, I'm still in a tough race for the division and not 100% sure of making the playoffs. Here's the division.

The Pro Crastinaters were .528 before intra-divisional play, but have since taken it on the chin (going 4-17 mostly against the division, head to head). Although I've got a 7 game lead in the wildcard with 18 to go I'm not feeling very secure because any one of the top three teams is capable of a sweep at any time.

Since we've now played 54 games within the division and 90 outside, and because therefore the math is fairly easy, I decided to figure the division's w/l pct against the rest of the league. If my math is right, the division as a whole has played 360 games vs. the rest of the league and won 225 games (45 over .500) for a wl/pct of .625. I would call that dominance. It will be tough on whoever doesn't make the playoffs, since all three of the top teams are outstanding. :wink:

As always with the "Friendly Rivalry Leagues" the competition is tough. Just the other day, the Neophytes and I were tied and the Beulahs were much closer than 6 games out. My current record is currently tied for the league's best record, so it is looking like the the Wild Card could come out of the division. The ever crafty and dangerous albert2b is poised to play spoiler as we are on our way through the final stretch.

Perhaps, though the real story is what is happening in the Central of this league:

YountFan's run differential is clearly the top of the class in the whole league. Just last week, the Gloryhounds were 6 games out of 1st place. As of last night, the Gloryhounds have sealed the gap and it looks quite exciting for the rest of the season.

This league is desperate for good pitching. The league's best team ERA is 4.18. :shock: As you can imagine, Sykes' squad has been bashing the ball and has gotten a very decent run on some cheap pitchers. He ranks 4th overall in pitching.

The Ashes have a very good squad. The only problem that the Ashes have is that all three of us went on a winning surge at the same time. We're the only teams with 70 wins or more at game 123.

Jimmy_C's is a an unusually good league division. I just did the math and his division posted a .608 w/l pct. vs the rest of the league. Still, my current league is even better, going .625 vs the rest of the league. I still find that figure pretty amazing, though I'm sure it's not the best ever.

If anyone's interest, I can explain how you can figure out a division's w/l pct against the rest of the league--it's not hard.
