I picked up Brett after he was dumped on one of my teams. He really struggled for the first team (241 BA, 307 OBP) in limited ABs (79). I've now had him for an additional 196 ABs and I can't, for the life of me, figure out which card I have. For my Fenway team, he's hit 270 with a 308 OBP and 475 SLG. In total (thru 275 ABs), he's hit 262, 308 OBP and 473 SLG. There is no injury data.
In his bad year (91), he hit 255 with a 332 OBP and 402 SLG, so the BA and OBP look like a match. However, he's also hit 11 HRs (in 91, he hit 10 in 505 ABs) and I'm in a park that limits HRs for leftys. More importantly, he's hit 8 triples, at least half against RHP! In 91, he hit 2 and does not have one on his card against RHP. In 88 (his next worst year), he hit 3 triples, but doesn't have one on his card against LHP. I realize the trips could have come on the pitcher's card, but he's hit 8 of them and his power numbers project to approx 20 2B (really light on the 2Bs), 20 triples and 23 HRs.
Some add'l data - against LHP, he's 239/299/409 (88 ABs), and against RHP, he's 296/316/528 (108 ABs).
I've considered dropping him on several occasions - Yount is out there, likely his worst card, but I can swap him for Smalley and significantly improve the D without really hurting the O. There are other (perhaps better) options as well, which I'm not going to reveal here!
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
