Platoon Closers

Postby rutkap » Sat Feb 11, 2006 4:06 pm

As you can tell I am new to the game, I have a situation where I have Willie Hernandez and Quisenberry as my top two options in the pen. Does it make sense to list willie as Closer vs LHP and Quis vs RHP? Will HAL yank one for the other over and over in the 8th and 9th innings. If I do put them as such should i list them as Setup as well?? any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated....

I'm no expert -

My observation - you may have too much money invested in Quiz ($5M) and Hernandez ($2.72M) using those closer limits.

Presuming you haven't spent money on another RP besides $.75M, I'd run Hernandez as the closer vs. both sides and possibly the set-up man vs both sides (or maybe LHBs).

Since Quiz is R3, you'll want to get the most amount of innings out of him and force HAL to run him every time possible (roughly 2 games per series).

Set Hernandez to no appear before the "8th Inning" and run Quiz to avoid appearance during blow out (with a slow hook). Find one of your $.75M to become your batting practice pitcher during large blow outs.

Otherwise, you may wish to drop Quiz and find a better SP.
