Manager Profile Question

Postby ths92110 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:16 pm

In the Managers Profile Section of the Statistics page, are successful hit and runs also counted as runners advanced? In other words, on my current team, my manager profile shows 11 H&Rs, 36 Attempts, and 18 runners advanced. My question is, are the 11 H&Rs counted as part of the 18 runners advanced (and thus a "success" rate of 50%), or have I moved a guy to 2nd 18 times, and had the hit & run work an additional 11 times, giving a success rate of 29 out of 36 (80%)??

Thanks,

ths

H&R= Number of hits when you attempted

ATT= Number of Hit and Run attempts made

ADV= Number of Runners who have advanced from H&R attempts, but the batter is out

If you play any of the other versions besides 80's and 70's, you will see "H&R" attempts revealed as part of the dice rolls. Easy to confirm the stats on the profile page. 80's and 70's cannot show the dice rolls or H&R in the box scores to protect that Mystery Card aspect.

From the perspective of a real baseball game, scientific evidence and probabilities show that it's mostly a bad idea to begin with, unless it's a specific situation and a specific hitter(usually someone whos a freeswinger anyways). I dunno how the card rolls work on a hit and run in Strat-o-matic, so I dunno on whether its a good idea or not in THIS GAME... but I stay away from it anyways. All you Bill James readers should comment on this, and i'd like to know how the card rolls work in SOM on a hit and run.

Basically there is a separate chart to roll on for hit and run results, and quite frankly, even for the best hit and run rating, it is not very good.
Essentially it removes the hitters card from the equation, so a hitter with good homerun power is pretty much eliminating his chance of hitting a homer by using the hit and run.
The best scenarios for the H&R are when you have a poor hitter at the plate and/or a poor matchup (Lefty hitter with 6R rating vrs a lefty pitcher with 6L rating, leaving you with a little to no on base chance for the at bat) but with a good H&R rating.
It also works well if you're trying to avoid a strikeout as the hit a run usually (not always) avoids the pitchers card as well.

yeah but does HAL make reasonable "decisions", because it can't control the nuances of it... it seems like most of the hit and runs in my leagues (for the teams that obviously have it jacked up) don't necessarily follow the rareish situations you mentioned.
