Reitz vs Robinson

Postby Barbie Girl » Mon Jul 13, 2009 2:34 pm

I have a dilemma.

I need the extra cash provided by dropping Brooks Robinson. I am playing in Busch, and I like good defensive teams. Dropping him for Reitz would give me the extra cash, and good defense (both are 1e15), but there is a slight edge for Robinson on offense.

Would selling off Robinson (.268 BA .331 OBP .380 SLG .711 OPS) and opting for Reitz (.262 BA .290 OBP .361 SLG .651 OPS) make a huge difference in offensive output?

As far as cards go, they both have three decent years. Both are ever average (at best) bats.

I have used both before, with varying degrees of success. I have a horrible SOM record, but I am above .500 with my six most recent teams (all Busch...using the small ball strategy) and two have gone to the playoffs and one to the finals. Two others are in the hunt. So I think this strategy is best for me. I've had Robinson on all six teams. His best, so far, is a .357 BA . 383 OBP league MVP runner up. His worst was a .225 BA .290 OBP. The only time I have used Reitz was on one of my Fenway disasters. But he was one of the bright spots. He actually hit 33 HRs with a .275 BA. I forgot his OBP, but it was high 2's.

Please help me....if I made sense. Or if you have any other recommendations, please feel free to share.

:D

If Brooks Robinson stunk as bad as his cards are, the HOF would never have beckoned. Try a Dave Chalk, Wayne Garrett platoon and let Chalk come in for D. If this doesn't work, get rid of the bad one and get Paul Schaal. If this doesn't work, get rid of both of them and try Dennis Menke. If this fails, buy more credits and get ready for the new season because this one is now about over...

This is good advice.

I don't think Brooks is all that bad. He's not my first choice for third base, but I would rather have him over Reitz, even taking the money difference into account. Brooks' average should play a bit better than .268 because of the ball park he played in. His OBP is much better than Reitz. Also, Brooks has positive clutch four years and his one negative year is only on a 3. If you get 72 or 73 for Brooks, I would probably drop him, however.

Platoon

Howdy,

You may want to consider a platoon at 3b.

Larry

PS: 3b doesn't get near so many defensive chances per game as SS/2b, fwiw.

Defense at 3B is overrated! I'm a big fan of Hebner :D

I had Hebner on this team, at one point. Probably gonna wish I'd kept him.....

I agree on "D" at 3B and Hebner. I think four of his cards are usable with a couple of really good ones.

I think that the card is pretty fair to Brooks. He was never a great hitter. He made the HOF because he was the best fielder of all time at 3rd. His 1970 world series against the Reds (against Lee May in particular) was amazing.
