I like a lot of the players on your team, and I think it has potential to do well. Here are the ways you could improve your team:

1. You have too many starters. You only need your top four and a cheap starter/reliever to use for mop up.

2. Aurelio Rodriguez is an expensive backup for Brooks. You could spend that money better elsewhere.

3. You should take some of the money you free up and invest in a couple of decent pure relievers. There are some good ones between 2 and 3 million.

4. If it's a DH league, you don't really have a good DH. However, I'd hate to cut any of your starters to free up money to get one. So, I'll let you or others solve that one!

Despite those suggestions, I really do like your players, both pitchers and hitters.

1. Cut Bahnson, for .75 pitcher. 5th starter won't get starts, don't spend anything.

2. Need better bullpen. There are several decent relievers between $1-$2 that are normally available.

3. Cut Rodriguez, Joshua & Washington, for .75 back ups. Again, don't spend too much on back-ups.

4. Need to upgrade at SS. Find the best 1 or 2 defense you can. Not much offense out of SS in 70s game.

5. Need to upgrade in CF. I don't really like Blair.

6. Need a DH. Start with the highest OPS in the free agent pool with whatever funds you have left over.

My thoughts...

1. 5 pure starters is plenty and you're overpaying for pitching. Remember you're in a hitters park so its better to have a good bull pen than lots of starters who get banged around and don't go deep into games.
2. you have no good OBP guys to get on in front of Reggie, B Wil, and Garvey...Those guys could end up hitting a lot of solo HRs...you'd be better off with North in CF who gets on and steals.
3. You need a good closer or 2 to finish out games...your current RPs are too hit or miss on success. you're at +/- 30mil on pitching expense...I typically in a htters park stay in a 25-27mil range...use the extra money to get a high OBP guy who runs well and score a lot in front of the boppers.
4. your top starters...Blue, Jones, Tanana are real feast or famine guys...meaning they have 1 maybe 2 cards that will help you...their other cards might get you pounded in that hitters' park.
5. cheapen your backups...thats why they are backups.

Your #1 priority in my mind is to get guys who will increase your OBP...the more guys that get on the more times the boppers come up...which is obviously what you want in a hitters park...Good Luck!!!

That is a terrible way of picking players IMO. Look at the cards. Try to not even notice what name is on the top of the cards and look at the cards themselves because they are what this game runs on. Do you play the 200X games? If so you will see that some of the best player cards are from players that didn't play all that much and you won't even remember their names in a year or two. What does this tell you? It tells you that 10 years from now if you went soley based on players you remember you would miss all of those players with good cards. LOOK AT THE CARDS.

You're playing in a HR park. That means you need a bunch of guys who can get on base (high OBP) and hit HRs (high SLG). I would dump Yeager, Robinson, Hobson, Blair, and Washington. I would pick up any available power slob you can find. A 3 or a 4 at 3B is fine: Guys like Bob Bailey, Darrell Evans, or Toby Harrah. A 2 in CF is OK: Is Mays available? Rick Monday? A 3 works at Catcher: Again if he can hit HRs and get on base. Tenace is great, and Simmons and Ferguson work too. Then get a couple of 1 million dollar guys who are balanced way left or way right to platoon at DH.

Here's an example of the power slob format running on on all cylinders: http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/70s/team/team_other.html?user_id=56105 I got very lucky with this team as Jackson, Allen and Monday are all in there best years.

Good Luck!! :D
