OK...This is THE worst HAL sub ever!

Postby JONCHUCKERY » Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:25 am

It official...I have the worst sub move by HAL in the history of 70's SOM. I will be looking for my trophy here soon.

OK...after not scoring in the top of the 6th and M Belanger making the last out we are down 5-1. S Stone gives up 2 straight singles and a walk to load the bases with nobody out. HAL brings in J Todd to relieve. No prob there...however in his infinite wisdom HAL takes out Belanger on a double switch sine the P spot will lead off the 7th and again Belanger made the last out...

This in some cases could make sense, but as we say here in the South...HYEVER...Belanger is 5th in the league in BA at .319, 4th in RS, and Oh Yeah...the GOLD GLOVE LEADER AT SS. So to replace him HAL choose W Garrett. That would be the W Garrett who is a 4e53...no that is not a misprint...a 4e53 at SS. I know Garrett hits RHP better, but you have got to be kidding me!!! Todd of course gives up 2 of the runs and we lose 7-1.

If Belanger was hitting .205...maybe. If the game was tied or a run different...possibly. But down 4 runs with the bases loaded and nobody out and you take the GOLD GLOVE SS FOR A 4E53 REPLACEMENT AT THE MOST IMPORTANT D POSITION ON THE FIELD. EGAD!!!!!!

Anybody know any good virus' that could be loaded into HAL to teach him a lesson?

You've got me beat!

Howdy,

The OP's sad HAL tale beats mine, but let me share. HAL often will substitute Dal Maxville (a "2") for Metzger at SS in the late innings. Huh?
Replace a "1" with a "2" for [i:f983c9530f]defensive[/i:f983c9530f] purposes?

how about Duke Sims subbing in RF for Dave Parker? This has happened numerous times over the last couple of weeks. There's something very strange going on here. I have a defensive sub for Sims late in games but instead of him taking a seat in the dugout he goes to the outfield and Parker takes a shower? Really?

A couple of nights ago my team lost a game which could have been as a result of a HAL switch.

Jim Sundberg, my primary catcher was pinch hit for in the top of the ninth inning. Since my team scored two runs to tie the game, I can't complain too much about HAL's maneuvering. My backup catcher, Charlie Moore, pinch hit and struck out to end the inning.

However, in the bottom of the 9th inning, does HAL put in Charlie Moore at C, the logical choice? No, he inserts Bill "Beltin'" Melton at C, and Dick Green at 3B. Dick Green does have 3B on his card, but it seems that with Moore's availability he should have been inserted at C, and then either Melton or Green should have been inserted at 3B. As it turned out, Ken Henderson stole second on Melton's rubber arm after being hit by a pitch, and he scored when the next batter singled, and my team ended up losing the game.

Fortunately, my Greeters have not been victimized too much by HAL and have won their division, so I wasn't too perturbed about the loss.

Twice I have had Sal Bando inserted as a defensive replacement at C (HAL must love to put in third basemen; first Bando, and then Melton), and in one '69 league I competed in, Roberto Clemente was inserted as a defensive replacement at 2B. In one of the Sal Bando replacement games, he threw out Dave Nelson trying to steal.
