Campaneris and clutch hitting

Postby Larryrickenbacker » Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:34 am

Howdy,

Interesting observation, Coyote303 about Campaneris' weak hitting in the clutch.
Memories distort over time, especially when my only exposure to the famed "Mustache Gang" were only a few TV games per year, but i remember Campy and his teammates had a hard-earned reputation for heroic clutch-hitting-espcially on TV/play-offs.
Rudi, Tenace, Bando and of course the ever humble Jackson come to mind. Rudi's card seems to feature a good percentage of "clutch hits", and I'm a bit surprised more people don't take him; probably because in SOM, one pays for a great glove and Rudi is also a righty in an era sorely in need of Lefty hitting. Sorry for rambling, but the early 70s A's are my sentimental favorite, along with Houston from the same period.
