March Madness 2010?

I have been on maybe a 2 year sabbatical, but I remember the March Madness tournament being the best event I had participated in.

Anyone interested in doing it again this year?

The March Madness Tourney changed to the 70's/80's Championship Tournament. It was run by Jablowmi the first 2 years and now Chess is running it this year. It started already this year...we are 57 games into Rounds 1 and 2. Here is a link to the leader board from the 70's board:

I participated in both tournaments and I really liked that March Madness. What made it fun was that even if you couldn't make the playoffs, you were still trying to wins games to avoid elimination from the next round. I think I made it to the finals without actually making the playoffs, but I had a winning pct. in each round. This tourney is still fun, but many teams will play the last 2 rounds without much of a shot at going to the finals.

And if you were lucky enough to be in the same league as me, you got bracketology reports! Remember, this is based upon the 2006 college season. I did a write-up for all twelve teams in the league. A sample follows:

So, without further ado, installment 1 of bracketology. **Disclaimer** The analysis following is for amusement purposes only, I do not wish to offend any of the managers in this bracket, or give them locker room material to rile them up when facing my team!!!!!!

Number 1 seed in bracket 1 - Sykes. 26 Playoff appearances, 3 rings.
Sykes has the second most wins as well as second most losses in the 80s. Most people will focus in on his winning percentage and dismiss Sykes since he isn't even at breakeven. That would be a mistake. Sykes is the great experimenter, and has constantly drafted teams to get the odd ball player on his team, and then track how the player performs. He probably has the most complete data bank on player performance, as he has probably used every player in the set at least once. This is Sykes big moment to prove to the Strat community he is worthy of the overall number 1 seed and go deep into round three or four. The school Sykes most accurately represents would be Kansas, lots of playoff appearances, few brass rings.

To conclude this installment, Seed 1, Sykes, most like Univ of Kansas.

Stay tuned as I do this for the remaining 11 seeds, although I will pass on my own team as I don't trust myself to be objective enough about my own strengths and weaknesses.

Big is big dawg from the UK. I have a special interest in this area, as most of you know I currently hail from the UK as well. A gentleman, fierce competitor, and genuine all-around good ambassador for the 80s Strat Game. If he spent all his time in pursuit of perfection in the 80s game, he would be in the top 5 all-time. His teams are consistent, though beatable on occasion. University most like Big - what else except the University of Kentucky. Consistent winner, always near the top.

Number 3 seed - Toisan. 15 playoff appearances, 3 rings.

Quiet, unassuming, yet cerebral, a quiet assassin. Toisan is the best 80s manager you never heard of. Has the capability to go very, very deep in this tournament. I'm mad he is in the same division as me. Knowledge of rules, competitive spirit extremely high. Able to mold his team into winners no matter what cards are dealt to him. Took me 20 minutes to decide whether he fit the Billy Donovan or Mark Few mold. Survey says - Gonzaga.

Well, that's me, so all I'll say is I'm the most recent inductee to the 2000 win club.
I was hoping to come up with a way to pair our rankings into usable tourney format. You all made it possible with your enthusiasm and love for the game, or perhaps looking for a chance to knock down the big boys in 80s Strat. Whatever your motivation, I give you a Special Operations Salute for allowing this idea to take off, and I promote Jablowmi to honorary commando for expanding this concept to what it is today. I appreciate the synopsis. I dont look at my Win pct either. I have 8-10 teams with close to 100 losses as parts of experiments etc. It will not be easy to hold that #1 seed though, regardless and being 3-14 in teh finals does sting a bit.

Some fine managers across this entire tourney and nobody should be underestimated. I welcome those who are new and old and wish everybody the best of luck.

P.S. I did not use Jack Murphy in round 1. 8)

First off, what the hell is a tqmfp???
Just outside the top 50 in rankings, tq is a quick study. After getting hooked on the 80s, tq plunged into the scene with abandon, learning every step of the way. Fits the definition of a mid-major with much more success lately after learning at the school of hard knocks against seasoned veterans. In a very tough bracket, the nation can learn of tq's mettle depending upon how he deals with the players the auto draft throws his way. University most like tq's chances - Wichita State.

Number 6 seed - BBrool. 6 Playoff Appearances, 0 Rings.

Searching for his first ring, to capture one in this tournament would give bbrool instant credibility. Sitting atop page 3 in the rankings at #101, an opponent who might get overlooked, but that would be a serious mistake. Bbrool boasts one of the top winning percentages in the tournament, many managers will be asking - did he build up a great record with a creampuff schedule? Let me tell you that I've matched up against Bbrool before, and I've only played in four auto leagues. Bbrool is legit. He most resembles the champion of a minor conference. University of Nevada.
