Best card in the 70's?

Postby The Senators » Mon Feb 15, 2010 4:30 pm

It's hard to quantify, but who is widely considered to be the best single card in the 70's set, hittingwise? It's pretty tough to beat Sixto Lexcano 1979 vs. lefthanded pitching...who are some of the others?

Whats not to like about Stargell 73, Aaron 71 or 73, Brett 80, Yaz 70 or McCovey 70?

I love Carew 77
and of course there is Morgan 76

Lezcano is a favorite of mine, so I'm happy to see his 79 season represented.

I also have to give mention to the 2 monster Killebrew seasons.

Brett 80 is probably the best although Reggie Jackson 69 is a 10mil card in the ATG set

Not talked about monster season capable...
B Bailey 70
D Baylor 79
R Carty 70
B Tolan 70

that's enough for now as I'm too tired to remember more!

These are all great. Some other biggies:
Dick Allen 72; his 70 and 74 aren't bad either
Cedeno 72 and 73
Lynn 79

Some of the bargain basher seasons not yet mentioned:
Frank Howard 69 and 70
Velez 79

Bailey's been mentioned but I got his big year once and it was amazing. I had Brett 80 on both an 80's and 70's team simultaneously and felt almost like I was cheating. Brett 80 can be dominant even in ATG, where he's up against the great years of Ruth, Williams, Gehrig, Hornsby, etc.

There are also some great 70s platoon years as well....but I'll leave those for another day...

Never mind card stats... I wil not release Ben Oglivie
in Keeper leagues. He consistently outperforms his cards for me.
