Grich: 51 games and 10 errors?!

Postby Larryrickenbacker » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:39 pm

Howdy,

I decided to throw caution to the wind and give Bobby Grich a try. Hey, there's a first time for everything, right?
Grich is producing RBIs, so that's good. But after only 51 games, Grich has committed [i:434ebd9111]10[/i:434ebd9111] errors! Grich is a 1e14, for crying out loud. Can one simply chalk up Grich's uncharacteristically high number of errors to bad luck with the dice? Anyone?

Larry

BTW: My pitching staff is flyball oriented. Our staduim is the Astrodome, if it makes a difference.

What gives with Grich's errors?

Howdy,

We've played 81 games, with Grich playing in some 80 of them. He's committed [i:1e67e1ae1d]15[/i:1e67e1ae1d] errors already. He's listed as a 1e14, btw. Our home park is the Astrodome.
Given that we've got Metzger at SS, Brett at 3rd and Hernandez at 1st, it's surprising to me that we're nowhere [i:1e67e1ae1d]near[/i:1e67e1ae1d] the top of the league in groundball double plays. I interpret that fact to mean that my pitching staff isn't groundball oriented...therefore Grich likely isn't getting as many chances for grounders as one might expect. Anyone?

There are numerous factors to consider....

1. card choices of hitters and pitchers
2. do your pitchers record a lot of Ks
3. do your pitchers issue few walks
4. do you have a low WHIP

remember to get a double play you have to have men on base which is not always a good thing...the thing about having Metzger and Grich is knowing when you do get gbX chances you know you have the best avilable combo

Howdy,

JMC316: Thanks for the post. My team's WHIP is the league's lowest. My rotations is: Christianson (whose having his best card!), Jim Perry 1.33 WHIP, Tiant ('71 or '72 card!) and F. Jenkins, whose 15-3 with a ridiculously low WHIP.
We're 6 games over .500, but Grich's 15 errors still puzzle me. SOM's a ball, though. Grich's Slg percentage is pretty good for the 'Dome. He's on pace to juuust reach 100 RBI and 20+ HR. Again, our season is at the halfway point and my league is almost entirely "Bomber" parks, save for our home park in Houston.
