Base running and stealing setting

Postby CleavonLittle » Tue Aug 02, 2011 8:18 am

Hi...

Just getting back into the game and cant find the answer...please refresh my memory

How does the settings for base running and stealing work...if a team has a weak arm catcher should I increase the setting to aggressive or more or if they have a -3 should I be conservative? Does aggressive mean he will steal when odds are 1-14 but conservative means only steals if odds are 1-17 or better. same with base running...please advise.

not sure on the actual number but aggressive will mean more attempts at bad odds, conservative less so. I like aggressive base running and conservative stealing with the good stealers set to steal more. You wont steal 100, but a excellent stealer can get 50+

thanks...I usually set guys I dont want to steal as do not steal...very few guys are ever set to steal more...maybe a henderson...but i like aggressive vs a bad catcher and normal vs decent 0 arm and conservative vs minus 2 or better arm. However you are saying the catcher has no bearing on when you should steal. Same for throwing on trying for extra base hits.

As both of you said, a poor catcher is likely to create more favorable steal situations depending on your setting. The difference in the settings will determine the number of these attempts. A more aggressive setting will cause more attempts at lesser odds, while a conservative setting will create fewer steal situations with a better chance of success. A bad throwing catcher potentially increases the number of times your baserunners will get the green light. It does not neccessarily increase your chances of success. If a +3 arm gets your mediocre stealers over the setting threshhold, you will have more mediocre base stealers attempting to steal while the good base stealers who were already over the threshhold will have an even better chance of making it.
