How are players chosen?

Postby Ragnarokpc » Fri Jul 21, 2006 3:37 am

Just curious how the players were chosen for this game, since there were several guys I was surprised not to see. Is there some qualification? Do the players ever change? I know one guy I was hoping to scoop up for cheap was Paul Householder, for some good Defense in the outfield. He's not there, and neither is Jose Rijo. There were definitely others . . . anyways, thanks for any info you have here.

Exactly how the players were chose I don't know. The players need to have played at least 5 years of significant playing time from the late 70s thru the early 90s. There are several players that fit that rule that are not included in this game.

Householder only had 3 years of more than 78 ABs so he would not be considered.

Rijo very well could have been. I think that players that were still active at the time this game was created in the early 00s had a bias against them. I think the only active players at the time that are included are Santiago, Clemens, Larkin, Orosco and Rickey Henderson because these players don't have their real names used but instead their team and uniform number. I think there was some sort of licensing issue with MLB or the player's union or something so TSN couldn't use their real names.

Greg Maddux is another player that could have been included but wasn't. There are at least a dozen or so such players.

I am sure some of the 80s pros out there will give a more knowledgeable answer than this.
