Like a Virgin Again: Back Playing!

Postby Semper Gumby » Wed Feb 01, 2006 4:31 pm

After a spending another year tanning and relaxing in Fallujah (Iraq) , I'm a "born again" {SoM} virgin - sort of like Paris Hilton hopes to be on her wedding night.

BTW, not too many Iraqis play strat-o-matic :( so I have lost my sense for the cards and outcomes.

Rather than spend any $$$s on the 2005 version only to get my arse waxed by the card sharks, I'll scratch my itch on the 80s version for awhile.

At least, I can hope for some luck as I get my "rookie" status upgraded to league ho!

[b:d54c459ab5]So, how long does it take for the autodraft leagues to fill?[[/b:d54c459ab5]

autos fill in 2 to 3 days. Iraqis love George Brett, Winfield and other weapons of mass destruction.

Thanks.

Three (3) days doesn't sound too long to wait for the league to draft.

Considering that I purchased the "five pack" special, I'll have an entire year's worth of fun.

At this stage of the effort, doubtful (i.e., playing more than one team).

For now, I'll just enjoy getting my trend spotting techniques back online. While I'll be challenged to spend time simply reviewing the daily box scores, I now this SoM version will keep me interested for several weeks before I need another rush of drafting / trend / injury spotting.

BTW, this board is awfully quiet - do many new "owners" play or primarily veterans?

Semper Fi, Gumby. Welcome, and thank you for serving. I'm a Marine too (if you follow the boards, you'll see these Strat 80's vets giving me grief about my teams -- my Montezuma Leathernecks team was my first championship team in Strat this past fall).

Welcome home. Are you still active duty? What unit are you attached to. I was with 2nd Radio Bn in Lejeune; got out in 1983, right after the barracks in Beirut were bombed killing our men.

Hope to hook up in a league with you. Good luck,

Sean

Seanflex -

Well, I'm already a fan of the 80s now with the sighting of another Marine.

I spent four (4) years on active duty in the late 80s with 3d Battalion, 10th Marines and then the remaining sixteen (16) years in the reserves with various infantry units to include the ill-fated 3d Battalion, 25th Marines.

Of course, two (2) tours of Iraq kills any hopes to continue SoM play but I try nonetheless. I usually played in the current season private leagues and only in the 80s when invited as a replacement owner.

Otherwise, I'll lurk in this format with my five (5) credits and presume our paths will cross soon enough.

Gumby,

why are the 3/25 "ill fated" ?? Did they heavy casualties in Iraq?

thanks for being over there, Gumby. I was in during Desert Storm; I wish I could be in Iraq, and I'm glad I wasn't in .. all at the same time.

good luck,

sean
