Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I had two teams that pretty much dominated the regular season. One in the 80's and one 03 team. Neither of them won the championship and the 03 season I lost to the wilcard in the semis. In both cases it seemed a different team played the playoffs and championship game than played the regular season.

I just finished a league where I had the top record overall, then had to scratch out a five-game win against the wild-card, who had the second-best record. In doing so, I had to use my ace in game five, while my championship opponent swept his series and rested his pitchers. I then could not use my ace (Mike Scott) untill game 3, and then it was on three days rest. I ended up getting swept by a team that won 15 less games in the regular season. I think the fact that the champ had made more late-season adjustments to his roster helped that team out, especially in the rotation (he only had one starter over 200 IP, while I had gone virtually the whole season on four pitchers). Of course, it may also have something to do with Mike Schmidt going ice-cold in the playoffs (54 HR in the regular season, 0HR .177BA .206SLG in the playoffs).

Sometimes it seems a different card appears for the playoffs in the 80's season.

I just won a league title as a division winner with a 80-82 record. Five teams had a record better than mine. I had the 4th best record in the playoffs, all the other team had >90 wins: 93, 92 and 92. In the semis WC lost to #1, I beat #2. In the finals I beat #1. Kind of cool to win a league title with a losing regular season record.

I don't think it is a different card, it is just that the 1 for 15 by your best hitters is more is more noticable in the playoffs than it was during a three or four game stretch in the regular season.
But that's baseball[quote][quote:af38e4a66b][/quote:af38e4a66b]
