If you start the season with Boggs on the bench as has been suggested you are basically playing with a 73-74M team while everyone else is at 80M. You are only hurting yourself if you do that. Dump him now and get a better SP or something.

Fletch, in this situation....

"You know and I know someone down there is buckin' for a promotion. Its probably that peterass Hanrahan. Look they even want to know what he's doing in Utah."

"By the way...What kind of name is Poone?"

Well it's Camanche Indian, of course!

Anyways - I dumped Dawson and picked up Gibson as my LF. So my Fenway lineup looks like this:

vs RHP

CF Butler
DH Carew
3B Boggs
1B Mattingly
RF R.Jackson
LF K.Gibson
2B Whitaker
SS Fernandez
C Wynegar

vs LHP

CF Butler
DH Carew
1B Mattingly
3B Schmidt
RF R.Jackson
LF K.Gibson
2B Whitaker
SS Fernandez
C Wynegar

SP

Soto
M.Scott
Deshaies
Caldwell
Comer

It's an expensive platoon at 3B, but I don't think I stand a chance to improve my starting lineups, base on the talent that's left on the waiver wire. I think I'll roll with it and see what happens 8-)

You could hold your nose, play Carew at 2b with Whitaker as a def. replacement until someone wises up in the league that you're stubborn (or until a card is revealed as a dropable stinker).

Well, I dumped Schmidt in what I believed to be his worst year (actually he's hitting well for his new team in Wrigley, but slanted towards RHP - not a great sign). Boggs is in his '87 card, so he's my full time 3B now.

I'm 4 games over .500 and in 2nd place - so I guess, looking back, I'm glad I rode them both out for a while, until I confirmed Boggs' year.

That cash went quickly on mid level guys - as I went trolling for a bargain. Some worked (Bochte hitting .398 with 125 AB's so far, and Lamp 3-1 with a nasty 0.82 ERA) and some didn't (Hassey & Cey). Overall, it's working out well.
