The 70's As They Used to Be - 1979 Season

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

79 Ready to roll

Postby roofinghorse » Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:07 am

That was a nice comeback Jim from being down 3 games to 1 to win the championship....Congrats, that has to feel good.

Now 79, I'm facing the same o delimma as always. Not enough money to go around. Carrying my dead weight around too. ( Russell, Mota, and Hough). Not to mention Sutton, Garvey, and Cey if 1 or more of them have a bad card......
So I'll be looking for my cheap pitching to carry me through and I'm gonna have some decent players to trade off for some more cheap players.

Hooton, Messersmith, Sutcliffe, Reuss(nice rotation there), Yeager, Bando, Yount, and possibly Cooper, 1 of Baker/G. Thomas...

I'll be looking for a solid closer, some cheap SP and RP and maybe some .75 fill in guys.....
If nobody has done it by this afternoon, I'll create the league and get us started.

At this point we all have plenty of dead weight soaking up our salary caps. A sub 1M player is actually worth as much as any star player when trying to figure out how you can possibly fit all the players you want to under the cap.

I have Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Willie Aikens, Merv Rettenmund, Willie Davis and Jose Cardenal as players I could use. They seem like a nice start to a team but these are all players I don't think I can fit onto my roster and I doubt anyone else could either.

I do have some 75¢ pitchers (both SP and RP) that I could offer for a 75¢ hitter (no catchers please).

Let's head to '79

Postby pwootten » Sun Nov 29, 2009 11:37 am

Sorry I've been out of the loop the past week, but I'm back and ready to get 1979 on the road.

1977 was probably the best season yet in terms of competition. Great ending too.

Can someone set up the '79 league? East teams?

Thanks, Paul

Hmmmm!!!

Just noticed something...

I've let Don Zimmer manage the team in 2 of the 4 years we've played. His record is 180-144 with 2 division titles and a WS win.

Al Capone & the Kasko/Tanner duo are 150-174 with no division titles or playoff appearances

better let Popeye take the reigns for 79 if I want any chance to win!!! LOL!!!

I am going to load my team with a couple of ineligible players. I'll have to make some adjustments and/or trades before the season starts, but I don't want to hold things up.
