Super advanced

Using the super-advanced rules, range also plays a factor in getting to pop fouls and cutting down runners trying to advance on certain IF plays. I think it depends on your strategy (are you preventing runs or trying to outslug), and what you've got at SS. If you have a 1 at SS, then a 3 at 2B is acceptable. Of the two players mentioned, I like Oquendo because he draws walks, plays many positions, can can handle the bat.

Thanks for all the advice. I have a 1 at SS. Right now I'm inclined to stick with Ray for the 2Bs and RBIs.

[quote:f41492ad07="yak1407"]Another consideration is your pitching staff.
If you have high strike-out, high fly ball out pitchers, you can get away with lower range infielders.[/quote:f41492ad07]

Hey - I wonder if you would elaborate on this. All pitchers have the same # of fielding chart references for each position. The strikeout/flyball readings on your pitcher are going to come regardless of who is fielding the positions.

I think I've seen someone explain this before (on the old BB) but I forget the logic.

I'm not disagreeing. Just trying to get inside your head.

Same chances

The X ratings are pretty standard on all cards, regardless of flyball/groundball propensity. Gb pitchers are helped by good IF's on certain plays where runners may choose to advance. Good fielding helps ALL pitchers, regards range factor, because of the increase in DP's. I would say that the effectiveness of IF depends more on WHIP. High WHIP pitchers need better IF's because there are more runners on base, hence more chances at DP's.
