I'm in another league with this gentleman, so I was able to locate the box score. A couple points of interest: all other relief pitchers had been used, so HAL was out of options. Eckersley had thrown 37 pitches. I've never heard a definitive answer if TSN uses the pitch count feature, but Eck could have been at his POW. Eck had not pitched in the prior game, so he was not fatigued due to multiple consecutive game usage.

Yes, 4 RP. Trout can relieve, but he had started a recent game. Given these facts, HAL's logic wasn't that bad. This may be first time (and probably last time) I've given HAL the benefit of the doubt.

looking back at the previous games played, caldwell had started game 117 and trout had not pitched in between these games(the game with caldwell coming in relief was 119)so trout would have been an eligible reliever before hal put in caldwell.....but trout was around to start game 121......HAL----WHAT ELSE CAN BE SAID????? LOL

If he had Trout listed in game 121 of the per game starter schedule, HAL might not use Trout in relief. If my memory is correct, if Trout pitched more than 3 innings of relief in game 119, he would've been fatigued for game 121.

Same might occur if he listed Trout in the starting rotation. HAL seems reluctant to use those starters in relief. (Isn't that how some managers hide .50 starters in 200x and ATG in order to limit HAL to a couple of relievers?)

In which case, it would be a hoot for someone to complain about HAL's move, when he is merely following instructions, so to speak.

I would guess that Caldwell was scheduled to start in another three days, enough time for him not to be fatigued.
