Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Waiver Wire

Postby Jack377 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:20 pm

Dave Stewart (I think I had his one awful year) and Mike Greenwell (just couldn't afford to wait enough though his worst year isn't that bad--.158, 0 HR after 27 games) are now available...

Have at it if you favor those two...

Mike Boddicker (praying for '84) and Bobby Bonilla (need some extra base hits) have now joined the fray in our league...

Good luck, all. 8)

"So, how about showing up on the boards and give your "fingers" a work
out.

You paid your for duckets and might as well spend the chips on the forum
too".

This is just a ploy to get us to spend less time on the game so you can kick our rumps.

I'm too busy trying to keep up with you guys to write messages.

OK...As long as I paid my sawbuck I'll get my fingers typing (although...I
do plan on being around for rounds 3 and 4 so I was sorta holdin back).

Except for Jack Clark and Jose Canseco, my team is like the lunch special
in the high school cafeteria...MYSTERY MEAT!! Landed Jacks '78 card and
after trying to trade Canseco all pre-season, I ended up with either '90
or '91. I'm real happy with both those guys and thank you to everyone
who didn't want to trade for andro-boy.

Overall, my team is about as exciting as vanilla ice-cream. Clemens and
Key are solid starters, and Worrell is probably in an excellent year. My
2nd base tag team of Rob Wilfong-"gool" and Steve "safe" Sax are more
than earning their pay. I pretty much have a bunch of guys here who put
on their hard-hats and show up to work.

My objective this season after sufferring from crappydraftitis again is for
my team to suck a little less than 4 other teams... 8)

Sing While You're Winning

Postby Semper Gumby » Wed Jun 28, 2006 7:38 pm

Isn't my theory of playing strat as I put out more ink when I'm losing than winning.

My strategic errors started with park selection as I underestimated my division-mates preference for small ball parks. Having primarily played in Dodger or Oakland, I thought a changed would be pay dividends in player availability when if / when my draft card failed me.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Fisk[/b:40f2b46a7d]
For the small park, Fisk seemed like a solid selection but he does come with a significant defense liability as teams are tending to run on his battery. I dropped his back-up due to the "w" rating vs. RHPs for [b:40f2b46a7d]Newman[/b:40f2b46a7d].

[b:40f2b46a7d]Hrbek[/b:40f2b46a7d]
He is struck me as winning the bad door prize but still valuable as a white elephant gift for next year. I've rarely observe him play an entire season except for on Penngray's team. So, I have little expections out of him other than he has a LH bat and can hit home runs. He got dropped early when I tried to move [b:40f2b46a7d]Luzinski[/b:40f2b46a7d] to 1B.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Doran[/b:40f2b46a7d]
I've always found myself with Doran and never found myself with his better card. This season is now exception. Otherwise, he has 1e rated glove at a much x-chance rolled position and comes with a 600 PA rating.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Trammell[/b:40f2b46a7d]
Never used him before and found his overall card less LHP balanced that Ripken. We'll see how Alan plays the season as he's started off fast.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Wallach[/b:40f2b46a7d]
HAL sent me him and I have no experience with Wallach except for facing him in a few leagues. To me, plays like a RH [b:40f2b46a7d]Greg Nettles[/b:40f2b46a7d] with more PAs.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Rice[/b:40f2b46a7d]
Never used him before and am frustrated with appears to be a great card. I'm hoping for 1982 or 1983 given his splits so far.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Gwynn[/b:40f2b46a7d]
Wanted Puckett but changed to Gwynn which seemed wrong given Gwynn's "w" rating in Murphy as a mismatch. Gwynn's speed has its benefits and ability to play RF allows me options with my OF.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Strawberry[/b:40f2b46a7d]
Never used him before but have observed him play above his average years in almost every league so far. For now, he is hitting LHPs so I'm guess I have one of his E seasons.

[b:40f2b46a7d]Luzinski [/b:40f2b46a7d]
Until his injury, I had him pegged for his .298 season. Now an injury confirmed his 1983 season which is great except when you have a team of RH long ball hitters who can't get on base with any consistency. So, Luz's .255 average didn't add too much to the mix when I really needed a LHB. Picked up [b:40f2b46a7d]Kemp[/b:40f2b46a7d] but he doesn't play 1B so he had to go too.

The Shortest Fairy Tale

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu Jun 29, 2006 8:11 am

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl said,"NO!"

And the guy lived happily ever after and went fishing and hunting and played golf a lot and drank beer and left the toilet seat up and f*rted whenever he wanted.

Chit out of Luck

Postby Semper Gumby » Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:41 am

Last night played Panzer Ace's team and lost the series 1-2.

My critical calls for the game had been to keep the rolls off his batters' cards as much as possible and getting production out of my LHBs.

Well, I did get some fine numbers out of Hrbek (2 HRs) and Strawberry (2 HRs) to carry the weight for the team.

However, I yielded 8 HRs to generating 5 HRs on my own swings. Prior to the outing, Orel and Soto only allowed 5 HRs between them - that went out of the window.

However, Orel and Soto did collect a nice collection of Ks but only Orel enjoyed the win.

Oddly, HAL is allowing my SPs to pitch full games in hitting parks when I couldn't get him to do the same in pitching parks with an even better SP staff.

I've been travelling since basically the start of the season, but a quick look at the standing confirms what I feared, that I'm playing for 2nd place in the Eastern Division. I think Panzer Ace has already clinched! Panzer started out 17-4, he's cooled off to 9-3 in the last 12 games. Yikes.

1977 Jose Cruz is available for some power.

1985 or 1988 Brett is available for anything.

Shhh, don't tell Brett I really won't trade him. I just want to wake him up. Right now only Cooper and Dykstra have less RBI. Even Ozzie has more RBI and the same amount of HRs and a better Slg. Pct.!
