Once the West is loaded, why doesn't Sean just list out what 25 man roster he wanted. We can work it out better from there.

If that's okay with everyone, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Scott.

Actually, here are the "keeper" players that I hope to have back on my team, either from last year, or just drafted this year:

Stewart
Hough
Gullickson
Hoyt
Lavelle
Minton
Clear
Aase
McWilliams

Lance Parrish
Driessen
Baylor
White
DeCinces
Knight
Concepcion
Rice
Dawson
Singleton

The remaining six spots on the roster should have been filled with either .75 players, or a couple of the "leftovers" from this season's draft.

Thanks,

Sean

slug, I've sent the password to everyone's 1981 team page.

Sean, I think you'd have run into salary problems trying to keep all those guys. Even with six 75's to fill out the roster, I think you'd be a bit over. I can't speak for everybody, but I'm happy not to poach anybody you can get under a complying 80M even if in your hurry to get us up and running you've left them off your AD list. You'd have to shave somebody off your list though to get under 80, and you'd have to waive anybody you end up getting that isn't one of these protected guys so that everybody has a fair shot at them. Anybody with different thoughts?

I have some concerns about this too, myself. One, if canauscot is correct and you wouldn't have been able to fit all those players under the cap, then it needs to be determined which guys you would've kept, while maintaining a valid roster under the cap.

Also, if it is the case that you didn't put all your players on your list and instead your list included a number of FA's/.75ers then you may be at an unfair advantage. Even if you drop some to fit in the guys you meant to draft, you still would've had the advantage of being able to pick the best FA's of the extra you drafted. I don't know if that made any sense - perhaps if anyone understood my point they could explain it better.

Anyway, I think we need some suggestions proposed as to how to handle this problem if it does turn out as Sean suspects it will.

BC to appoint

Postby YountFan » Fri Jul 03, 2009 7:46 am

it has happened before and we have survived, but these are new and uncertain times BC and you need to take charge and oversee all the drafts for the rest of the decade.

Under this new plan BC will appoint a Draft Czar to whom everyone will submit their draft cards. If the Czar determines that your draft card will give you too big of an advantage he has the power to redistribute some of your players to other teams. This will be done "for the good of the league" and will no way be influenced by outside special interests.

The draft czar should be someone independent of the league with little or no SOM experience (just to keep it fair)

Scott -

I may have left Driessen off my draft card; I really don't recall. I just added up the dollars, and you're right, it wouldn't have worked. I think Driessen was the sacrificial lamb.

BC -

I will accept whatever the draft brings me; if I messed up, it's my fault, and I'll live with whatever it costs me. I was asking for special consideration, and that's not fair to everyone. I certainly didn't intend for it to give me unfair advantage. You, YF and several others in this league know me well enough to no that's not how I work. I simply didn't want to be in a position where I have to play without Rice, Dawson, etc., for the rest of the decade because I drafted my team in a hurry to keep things moving, knowing that my personal situation (moving, getting married, running my business) doesn't allow me a whole lot of free time. Bottom line -- my fault, I'll live with whatever I drafted.

YF -

A draft czar sounds like a liberal's ploy to create one more layer of government and raise our taxes. Creating a position to make sure that morons like me properly draft their teams seems like overkill. We're all big boys, and we've always worked out issues like this in the past.

Sorry to create a stir; please disregard this whole issue, I'll accept whatever happens because it's my fault.

Thanks, guys.

Sean, it's not an acceptable solution to me to just let you loose your best players. Nor do I think that's good for the league.

Here's what I propose: you list a specific number of who you consider your most important players. Those players will be unavailable to other teams as FA's but must be picked up in the waiver draft by you for you to maintain their rights. That way you will still get your best players -- Rice, Dawson, etc. But because this list will be limited to a certain number it will keep you from getting any advantage due to this snafu. If you kept a lot of guys off your AD list, you will lose some.

All we would need to do is decide on a fair number for you to be able to protect/reserve. What should this number be? 5, 7,8, 10? I'm looking for input, including Sean's.

Thoughts?

the number should be 13, and stay tune for the Draft Czar song

PS: Czars do not get the advise of others, you must rule with a iron fist
