I drafted a guy named Baby Doll Jacobson. I had never heard of this guy before so I did a little looking and found some info on him I'd like to share with you all if you are interested.
William Chester ( Baby Doll ) Jacobson was born August 16th, 1890, in Cable, IL. Legend has it that at Mobile ( in the Southern League ) in 1912, the grandstand band played Oh, You Beautiful Doll after Jacobsons' Opening Day homer, and the next days' paper captioned his photo, "Baby Doll". He made his Major League debut on April 14,1915 with the Detroit Tigers. The center fielder for one of the best outfields in history, Baby Doll Jacobson teamed with Ken Williams and Jack Tobin on the St. Louis Browns for five years. He was a large man (the Leagues' BIGGEST player, at 6'3'' and 215 lbs) who covered the outfield well, holding the American League record for putouts for 24 years. Cast adrift by Detroit as a rookie, Jacobson went on to post a .311 average in more than 1,400 major league games. He played for 5 teams in a 12 year career as a center-fielder, including the St. Louis Browns from 1915 thru 1926. He ranked in the top ten in MVP voting in 1924 and 1925. At one time, he held 13 AL fielding records. Jacobson retired from baseball in 1927, and he died on January 17, 1977 in Orion, IL., at the age of 86.
