Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Postby Yellow_Dog » Mon Dec 07, 2009 9:27 am

I decided to pull the trigger and release 2/3 of my outfield. Dykstra's OBp was only .313, and McReynolds really needed to bat only against lefties. I'm hoping Rickey will give me some better OBP, that Rob Deer can approximate McReynold's OPS, and that Reggie will snap out of it and play up to his .900 OPS card.

Stretch Run Strategy

Postby Jimmy_C » Mon Dec 07, 2009 8:38 pm

I just kicked in my stretch run strategy.

I picked up Randy O'Neal as my sixth starter. I'm hoping for his '85 card, but anything but his '87 will have to work out (he has 4 years with a lefty tilt). He's going to face Hak's team a lot (3 lefty and 4 switch hitters). As a sixth starter, he'll help me reserve my 2 lefty starters to maximize their use against Hailedog (5 lefty hitters including Van Slyke and Daniels). Voovits (8 lefty hitters) will see whatever lefty action I can throw at him, and then the best righty's I have who can make a start. He's my lowest priority to target as I'm 7 games behind him for the division, but only 1 game off the wild card. :D

I'm tied for 3rd in the East, and the only one with a minus run differential so I have to try harder!!

Boy that East is tough...

I was thinking...

If the east lives up to its reputation, we may be beating up on each other so much that the wild card may come from the West as both leaders in the west are 68-58, 3 games off the pace.

That almost happened in the other league I was in where all 4 teams in the east finished above .500.

How much longer until I get passed?
Getting swept at home did not help.
3 more home games, then ending the season with 9 on the road will be tough.

I keep trying to answer that question for you, but haven't been able to do so...yet. :D

When I kicked in my home-stretch strategy I was 7 games behind you. Now it's a very skinny 1 game. Of course...there are 2 other "wolves" clawing at the door too. It sure has been a very exciting stretch run in the East.

Well, I got passed...
1 day left, 1 game separates 1st and last place in the east. A 4-way tie is very possible.
The only chance I have of making the playoffs is a 3 game sweep as I'll lose any 3-way tie, and the only possible 2-way tie for me would be with Hailedog, and I lose the head-to-head there.
If I win 3 and have a 2-way tie with someone, it won't matter because I'll automatically be in.

What a league!

Regular season is over and the collapse is complete!
Unfortunately we did not have a 4 way tie. You could thank me for that, I lost 2 of 3.

Sean, are you planing on playing in the 70s/80s Players Championship?

Congrats to the 4 teams

Congrats to the playoff teams! Of course, I can't tell who the 4 teams are based on tiebreaks.

Chasenally, come play in the 70s/80s Players Championship! We are installing the StratGuru for inexperienced players, so that you may ask for help and direction during this tournament. Veterans can't use StratGuru.

Sean, grab your 2 credits and enter the Players Championships! Bernie and I will make sure that if you win, you get to pick an autographed Red Sox Jersey or Bat!

Yountfan, I don't see your entry! Are you intimidated by Voovits? :D

Let others in your other leagues know about the tournament! We need 7 managers to reach 60!
