Back to the 70's Mystery Card Game Announced!

I don't think Bird Fidrych will have a card. He only had one year over 81 innings. He had that one great year in 1976 where he pitched 250 IP and had 19 wins. Other than that........nothing.

He is the pitching version of Joe Charboneau.

This sounds great. Hopefully it will be the same format as back to the 80's. Even though I play some of the ATG season I don't really care for them.

Any bets on what the top-priced cards will be?

My guesses are that Joe Morgan will be the highest-priced hitter and Seaver will lead the pitchers. Bench'll be up there. Maybe Hank Aaron and Yaz if they dip into the '60s a little.

No Yount- and Ripken-like big-hitting shortstops from the era, I don't think, except for maybe Rico Petrocelli. Concepcion should be a 1 though.

But the big question is: will there be a Herb Washington pinch-runner card?

I think Johnny Bench's cards will be better than Gary Carter's in the 80's game. He could be one of the higher salaries.

Dave Cash is great offensively but I don't know about his defense. He is given a 4 for 2B in the 1969 game.

Willie Stargell will rock the 70's as well.

Ted Simmons will have great cards too. His OBP is .369 or higher in 7 years in the 70's if you include 1980 too. Maybe he had a better arm when he was younger. If he has a 0 throwing arm he will be highly sought after as well.

Billy North could be a AAA base stealer and a prime leadoff guy.

I'm sure of it. He had 7 years above 200 IP in the 70's. Also he had 3 of those years at 299+ IP. He will be the highest priced SP I bet.

Further to Steve Carlton, 1972........

346 IP, 257 H, 310 K, 1.97 ERA, 0.93 WHIP.

Compare to Rocket, 1990.........

228 IP, 193 H, 209 K, 1.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP.

Carlton will probably be saddled with his 73 season and he may not have 3 other season comparable to Rocket, but, if you get '72, you've got a $12M card.

On a slightly different note....

I wonder how this game will be set up in conjunction with Back to the 80's.

Will they be completely seperate games?
Will this be an expansion to make it back to the 70's/80's?

I would love it if you could either play 70's, 80's, or the two combined with overlapping players removed. I.e. Schmift would have a card in back to the 70's and a different card in back to the 80's. If you played the combined game, only one Schmidt would be available. Wouldn't that be cool?

I doubt that will be it thought. It would probably be impossible to do the pricing in a system like that. I'd guess two seperate games.
