No...actually..."Hal Hate Me". Says so on my team page:

Hal got to prove it in the 5th game of the playoff series. Hal pulls '83 Soto (with slow hook setting) after 4 2/3 innings against a lineup with only 1 Righty in it. Then Hal leaves '78 Brusstar (3R) in for 4 2/3 innings while '84 Sutter (3L) and '93 Gott (2L) watch from the bullpen.

Maddening. This proves of course that:
1. Hal is an idiot.
2. The settings buttons are a joke.
3. "Hal Hate Me"

Yes, Jimmy C. I too believe HAL is an idiot. Let's just hope he's not monitoring this board. :P

Bad Advice

Postby bjs73 » Thu Oct 12, 2006 6:36 pm

[quote:a279980541]I had the bad Mike Schmidt one time and I went ahead and picked up Gaetti at the first cut line. HAL put Gaetti in the lineup all 3 games that night. In my opinion, it confirmed what I already knew was true.

I have since proven myself wrong on this item. DO NOT follow this advice as gospel. I've tested this several times now and have determined without a shadow of a doubt that trying to trick the game engine into telling you who you should keep or not IS NOT reliable.

Ironically, I cut M. Schmidt some time later in a league pulling the same shenanigans and it blew up in my face.

Ultimately, this goes back to my new theory of HAL placing too much emphasis on the "balance" rating when making decisions. HAL will gladly start a 6L hitter against a lefty and replace a stud 1R hitter in the process.

It's a theory but I'm pretty much married to the idea at this point.

He may use balance to start the game, but I'm pretty sure that with one of my teams he pinch hit for Van Slyke in two straight games against an RHP.
I sort of think that HAl tends to HRs and power. My case is based on the all-star andawards voting where HR hitters constantly rate ahead of high batting average guys. It suggests to me that there is a bias towards home runs.
