No kidding

I just kept gnashing my teeth over having Simmons on my roster. I HATE the +2 arm. I thought about having him at 1B, but then you have the injury factor at 2 positions (that one, plus the one he vacated). Plus, he's so damned sloooooooow. I finally decided I had to part with either Molitor or Madlock and get a real 1B (Joyner).

I think I place too much value on closers. This is the second time I've gotten Henke, and he's expensive. But, man, he shuts it down, doesn't he? I think in the poison pill league I'm gonna go five man and draft a really good pen. Stay in the dome, go with pure speed, and just see what happens. I have a team currently with best record that ihas only 66 HR's after 96 games, but my pitching staff's ERA is about 1.10 runs better than the second place team. It took us until the 96th game, as a matter of fact to go over 300 runs allowed. I've gotten good years outa of all my starters, Henke already has 32 saves, and the league hits ab out .230 against us. It mirrors what I did in face to face strat -- defense, pitching, a good bullpen. That's my breade and butter for now.

"Refresh my memory, but weren't 5-man rotations the norm during the 80s? And didn't all staffs at least toss a spot starter every now and then? That should be simulated, shouldn't it? "

STOP IT RIGHT THERE. I'm having a hard enough time building a four-man rotation.

And I'm still trying to figure out what "breade" is so I can put some butter on it! ;)

I have used 5 man rotations and had some success.

Generally, you have a larger pool to swap in and out from as most folks fight for *SP all year.

It will cost you more money to run it that way, but if you hit the mother load, your entire staff is on auto-pilot.

I could find more, but I don't have the patience to look for my links currently. :P

Thanks, Sykes,

By the way, the main reason I went for the five man was that in draft after draft I've missed most of the players I wanted. In this draft, I got a pretty good lineup of hitters, and I was 10th on the waiver list instead of my usual 1st or 2nd. The main reason, then, I went with the five man was to benefit my offense (and my fielding). Here's my lineup:

1. Oakland #24 (R) CF
2. Harrah, Toby (R) 3B
3. Singleton, Ken (S) LF
4. Clark, Will (L) 1B
5. Clark, Jack (R) DH
6. Whitaker, Lou (L) 2B
7. Evans, Dwight (R) RF
8. Trammell, Alan (R) SS
9. Scioscia, Mike (L) C

As long as I get some decent years, these guys should be able to put up a few runs--and they're not so bad in the field, either. :D
