Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I played a hunch, starting Pastore over Stewart (and his 21 regular season wins). Dave's been stairing me down ever since but I'm sure he'll get over it with that shiny ring on his finger.

Hak, my hat goes off to you. You assembled the most dominating team in the decade, in my opinion. But the playoffs are a crapshoot. And the dice seem to roll my way when I make the finals.

World Series MVP: Don Mattingly

YF, you've got company in the 2-time champion circle!

Pastore

From goat in game 6 to hero in game 7. Nice to see an ex-Fatboy do well on baseball's biggest stage :D

Congrats BC on your 2nd championship this decade!

Congrats BC, you had a great team and deserved to win. That was a gutsy move going with Pastore over Stewart.

I almost caught you at the end again, but couldn't quite pull it out. I bet Wally Joyner was dying on the bench when with two out and two on in the bottom of the ninth his replacement came up to bat. If this was real life, Joyner would have hobbled up there, hit the game winning home run, and pumped his fist as he hobbled around the bases.

On to next year. That is three straight years with the best overall reagular season record and zero championships. I am the Atlanta Braves.

O Boy, This is the stuff where legends are made...

Frank Pastore gives up a walk-off homer to blow the Game 6 clincher only to resurface as a spot starter in Game 7 and spins a gem. On paper it didn't make sense, but that's why we play the games.

If you're the Braves, I feel like the Red Sox. A contending team year after year who can't seem to get over the hump and make the playoffs thanks to the other solid teams in the division.

End to a great season and on to 1988.

Thanks guys. This was the type of team I love playing with. I really like having options instead of having a set lineup or rotation. Not only did I have to make a choice on my game 7 starter, but all playoffs-long I've had 10 hitters to choose from in my lineup against RHP. Several times I sat Moseby, a few times I sat Barfield. For game 7, the chicken man, Wade Boggs, rode pine so that both Lloyd and Jesse could see action in the final game of their Decade careers. The Moseby triple in the 2nd, followed by the Barfield RBI may have been the difference.

As for starting Pastore, it was an agonizing decision. I ignored his blowing game 6. I've been pretty sure I had his 1980 season, which is actually better than any season of Stewart's, at least in a park like Annaheim. Pastore had started earlier in the series and beat Hak's mighty lineup, while Stewart had gotten rocked. I found all season that Stewart could be light's out, but then still pitch some games like batting practice.

Let's picks some award winners for 87!

And let's move on to 88 (the Central will be happy to know I gave up the farm to win in 87).

there is hope

Lets get rolling on 1988 the BFD's are returning all their starters and most of their bench and want to see if they can contend with the Haker. Most likely we can't, but we may be able to make .500. They played over .500 the last 1/3 of the seaosn so there is hope.

YF, you can start the 1988 league, as you're in the East and you're not drafting.

Go ahead and start -- Sean and Hak can start or enter anytime, too.
