Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

[quote:f123bb01bc="YountFan"]I wish it was unusual, but I have seen it too many times. Once the draft is over 1 or 2 guys go missing for a few days. Must be deer hunting season somewhere. It was a nice try to fill, but now we;ll have more time to play with out pitiful teams[/quote:f123bb01bc]

I was *hopeful* for a Monday start but I knew we would have to get lucky and not have anybody go MIA the last day. But I do appreciate those who hustled to get in. I need a distraction from the Players Tourney especially since my round 3 & 4 teams are struggling. Wait nycalderon is in this league too! I always look forward to him sweeping my teams  He's probably hoping Luke Walker somehow gets transferred to the 80's game. 11 runs in 1.1 innings? Ouch!

BTW I'm working on an idea for a 70's theme league. Everyone will have 40 players (25 active + 15 man farm team) and they will be drafted in "blocks". Those are the only 40 guys you could use the entire year. Anyway I may get that started soon while I wait to see if I make the Top 12 in the tourney.

A week and a day.....

And I'm ready to declare that Bruce Berenyi is the worst player in this league. Four starts, a 9.18 ERA, a 2.34 WHIP and for good measure he gives up a HR every 3 innings! He's so bad he makes Scott Bailes (6.85 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 7 HRs in 22 IP) look good!

And how did YountFan land all the good scrub hitters?

I did get lucky on a few (ie Gladden), but most of these guys have some skills, it just that they have poor D, or there are 'better' values. I'm not sure I'll be there at game 162, but we're going to keep trying

Gladden, D. R LF 2(0)e8: .373 .552 .417

Brunansky, T. R RF 2(-2)e6: .156 .256 .269

On the bright side, Bruno only has one error!

Shining Scrubs (60 game progress report)

Postby echo22 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 2:17 pm

No surprise, most of these guys suck! But a few are doing pretty well. Here are some of the star scrubs after 60 games.

We have Oddibe McDowell on pace to hit 50+ HRs.
Oddibe, Mike Marshall, Bob Brenly, and Ruppert Jones all have an OPS over .900. Warren Cromartie with a .331 BA. We have Floyd Youmans at 8-2. David Palmer 8-3. Storm Davis with a 3.26 ERA.

And then we have the awful.

Richard Dotson: 0-5 in 11 starts. 9.95 ERA, 2.03 WHIP
Bruce Berenyi: 2-2 in 8 starts. 8.23 ERA, 2.40 WHIP
Matt Young: 1-3 in 5 starts. 8.44 ERA, 2.16 WHIP
Atlee Hammaker: 5-6 in 11 starts. 7.45 ERA, 1.53 WHIP
Scott Bailes: 2-6 in 10 starts. 7.39 ERA, 1.77 WHIP

Jim Gantner: 163 ABs, .153 BA, .369 OPS
Alan Ashby: 104 ABs, .173 BA, .506 OPS
Garry Maddox: 164 ABs, .220 BA, .554 OPS
Don Slaught: 162 ABs, .210 BA, .576 OPS
Billy Sample: 166 ABs, .229 BA, .590 OPS

My team?

I'm spending so much on hitting that I can't do anything about my pitching. 3 of my 4 scrub pitchers have ERAs over 5.00. 3 of my 4 scrub pitchers have WHIPs of 1.50+. Taking Campbell and McDowell early (hoping for at least one very good season) isn't working out so well. Berenyi and Bailes? OMG! No wonder I've never seen either of these guys used before. Even my non-scrub starters (save Bankhead) stink. My scrub hitters? Dickie Thon is my SS. He's hitting .242 but does have 8 HRs. Cliff Johnson is my starting catcher because right-leaning Geno Petralli can't hit righties. CJ's .833 OPS leads my scrubs. Oddly enough he has yet to hit a HR vs LHP. Denny Walling (.267) was my first pick in the draft and he's been in and out of my starting lineup. Pete O'Brien is hitting a robust .216, but 6 of his 8 hits have gone for extra bases. Allan Bannister is my pinch runner. Craig Reynolds and Rafael Ramirez do the laundry.
