...testimonials?

[quote:4858264551]wow I've never played the 80's .Sounds great.I'll have to get in on it next time.[/quote:4858264551]

I found out about the 80's game quite by chance, when I blundered across a reference to it on some website while I was researching players for my 2005 private roto league. I immediately said "this is for me!" and have since brought in at least 3 more new player. But without a stroke of luck, I might never have found it.

Maybe TSN needs to do a bit more to market the game to their existing fan base? I think there are a bunch of players here who would be glad to provide testimonals, or they could be skimmed from the discussion boards, this and the prior one, in the interests of autheticity. Anyway, we as players of the game want to see it thrive and grow. That's one reason why the board is so welcoming and helpful to new players--I certainly got a huge amount of help when I was starting out.

What I like most about the game is that it's more like what you face as a real manager or GM. You never know what kind of year your players are going to actually have, and you have to handle the team accordingly. Should I stick with that faltering star or find a replacement? Is this role player who had a hot 30 games ready to step up as a regular? The mystery card puts us in a situation where we have to make those decisions. It [b:4858264551] is [/b:4858264551] more challenging, but for most of us, that's a good thing.

TSN doesnt do a very good job of marketing at all but I suspect its a cost thing.

Possibilities

Postby honestiago1 » Fri Oct 07, 2005 8:49 pm

Maybe this would slow things down too much, but I'd like to see 16-team leagues, if only because we'd be forced to draft deeper into the player pool, and to find contributions from less likely sources -- more platoon combinations and such. This would also increase the value of light-hitting, but usable glove men, like Schofield and Uribe. Again, more complexity, and more dedication/patience required to keep the team above water.

A sixteen team league would make the draft even more challenging and would force managers to use some of the players that do not get much playing time in the typical autodraft league.

The one negative I see is that with sixteen teams, only the division winners make it in and typically one division is real weak and one division has one, two or three teams deserving of the playoffs.

I am excited about a possible 70's mystery league. I'd love to see Carew, Killebrew, Jackson, Lolich, Wood, Bench, Morgan and some of the other stars of the 70's in action.

Playoff seedings

I don't suppose more playoff teams could be added, maybe two wildcards. You'd have to have an extra playoff round, I guess -- two best division records get byes. If half the league got in (8 teams) that would probably dilute the achievement a bit, but it'd keep more people excited.

Just musing....

I'm a mystery card addict and I think it's pretty clear that the MC format has a following that is growing. I have played straight up tsn-som and I think it's a snoozer. If the mystery card disappeared I would walk away from the game.

I would love to see a 70's era game released.

I would also like to see elastic pricing incorporated into the MC concept which has player prices go up or down depending on usage across leagues.

My name is Ugly... and I am an 80's addict.
I have never won a title... and I am an 80's addict.
My win pct is .460 ... and I am an 80's addict.

What other game can you get up and check a box score and find out that Bobby Grich just hit his 40th homerun, or that he is hitting .228 with 14 homeruns through the same amount of games (my team). The point is you never know and getting up in the morning and checking the boxscores is just like the real thing because you never know what is going to happen. You can have the rest of those leagues, just leave me the MC and I will be happy.

My name is Ugly ... and I am an 80's and MC ADDICT, and I am very happy about it.
