TSN 70s League Reality Show: fail and learn

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Injury B.S.

First, I deal with a wide range of statistical analysis much of my work day but TSN's SoM event outcomes baffles me when it comes to injury distribution vs. actual experience.

I have four 600 plus plate appearance players that have been injured close to three / four times each as of the 126 game mark.

If I kept score, the injuries tend to happen on the road which mirrors my past observations about HAL's home park advantage function. Namely, I recall increased number of caught stolen bases and errors when playing away. Now ... errors and stolen bases should be park neutral events but how can I have more errors and caught stealing on the road assuming I play even number of games against teams?

As for the injuries in this league, a pattern exists where Hargrove, Murcer, and Parker are injured in consecutive series with Hargrove and Murcer typically out in the same series. All three players are using their 600+ plate appearance seasons.

While the injury chance is "1" - Oddly, HAL can roll an injury chance but seems jinxed to role an extra base hit on players cards with higher chances.

Very odd

Injury B.S. update

If I didn't know better, I'd think HAL had it in for me

Mike Hargrove will miss his 13th game (5 separate injury events) despite having a 1.0 injury chance and 600+ plate appearances. Mike has been injured in 3 out of the last 6 series.

21 games left

And, I still have a few more lessons to cover before the season is over -

Even with some top card seasons for my hitters, we are still struggling to get runners across the plate.

Dave Parker has turned it on over the last 21 games after sleeping through the first 120 games.

At the rate he had been going, Dave had hit into more GIDPs than he had homeruns -

Season turning point

When I dropped my mid-high price RHSPs for LHRPs [b:97a8b93515]Ramon Hernandez [/b:97a8b93515]and [b:97a8b93515]Joe Sambito[/b:97a8b93515].

After watching teams stack 6 or more LHBs against my RHSPs, I leveraged TSN /HAL's inability to match-up opposing batters once HAL inserts Hernandez / Sambito in the game. As many teams carried the minimum # of positioned players ... the 5th /6th inning pitching changes allowed my hitters to wear down the opposing bullpen that lacked top end LHRPs.

Second, the addition of [b:97a8b93515]Mike Caldwell [/b:97a8b93515]and [b:97a8b93515]John Canderlaria[/b:97a8b93515] with their three day rest abilities sealed the deal.

Of course, a crap load of luck helped too.

After reviewing the league's other owners, I'm more convinced - luck over skill any day of the week and twice on Sundays

Now if I can figure out why [b:4014bef145]Mike Hargrove [/b:4014bef145]gets the itch to sit on the bench every other series, I would be happy.

HAL found time to injure [b:4014bef145]Mike Caldwell [/b:4014bef145]this week too ... but now we know his card is a bad year with decent results.

One last change to the batting order - moved Murcer to leadoff and dropped Singleton to 3rd in the order versus RHSPs

1. Murcer (1971)
2. Hargrove (1977)
3. Singleton (1973)
4 Staub (1971)
5. Parker (likely 1978)
6. Swisher (1978)
7. Hebner (1973)
8. Felix (1970)
9. Bowa (1975) (oddly, Larry is hitting RHPs and not LHPs)

Can I set my batting order after the lineup is set? I know in some of the other leagues this was possible.
