(Cocoa Beach is the Florida town where I spent numerous vacations with my family in the 80s. It is just south of Cape Canaveral, where I saw shuttles and Rockets launched. Juggernauts is a variation on Austronauts, as suggested by my significant other. If you google the word, Juggernaut, you will come up with:
- a massive inexorable force that seems to crush everything in its way
- any literal or metaphorical force regarded as unstoppable; that will crush all in its path.
- Something, such as a belief or institution, that elicits blind and destructive devotion or to which people are ruthlessly sacrificed.
- A force, an idea, or a system of beliefs that overcomes opposition — especially if it does so ruthlessly

The team has invested their big bucks in the Rocket who they expect to be the rotation mainstay, anchor and stopper, and the ultimate Juggernaut. Cocoa Beach look forward to seeing Clemens trot out to the mound every four days, from now until eternity. The #2 spot in the rotation is Ken Forsch’s to lose. Between Hammaker and Vida Blue, the Jugs will have an effective southpaw when they need one. Part of the GM’s draft strategy was to stockpile SP’s. Owning the rights to Swan, Barker, Boyd, Cox, Schmidt, Storm Davis, Schmidt, Shirley, Trout, Schiraldi, LaCoss, Sorensen, Anderson and Berenyi, the Jugs should be able to piece together an effective rotation.

Dave Smith expects to eat up most of the middle relief innings, possibly in tandem with Doug Corbett. Between Jay Howell, Jim Acker and Mike T Stanton, we’ll be taking some leaps of faith with the cheapie relievers. Sammy Stewart may even get some work, given how he’s suited for smaller parks. The Jugs will be shopping for some arms in the pen.

Willie Randolph will be the perennial second bagger and usual leadoff man. A couple of guys with decent gloves will get most of the starts at short -- Ozzie Guillen and UL Washington. Dickie Thon or Mariano Duncan may get some looks if more offense is needed from SS. An upgrade in this position would be welcome.

Eddie Murray is already written in on the lineup card for the Jugs’ cards. Should he falter, Darrell Evans can step in. The hot corner is the other position where an upgrade would be welcome. Doug DeCinces has the inside track on the job, but should a LH be needed the underrated Rance Mulliniks, Graig Nettles and Mike Pagliarulo are all game. If necessary either Darrell Evans, George Bell or Keith Moreland can play third.

Mickey Tettleton should provide welcome offense from the backstop position. Mike Heath is a cheap alternative if Mick has an off year. Three cheap C’s are available to back up. Keith Morelanc can also start behind the plate in a pinch. The afformentioned Evans expects to get most of his starts at DH. Bell may see some action, but Steve Balboni is the likely RH DH.

They won’t be graceful in the field, but they will do damage at the plate. Dale Murphy highlights a potent OF trio. Jose Canseco expects to feast on pitchers in Wrigley and the underrated Kal Daniels expects to create havoc for pitchers in al types of parks. Carmen Castillo is available to smack lefties around. Jim Dwyer, Keith Moreland, Cory Snyder, Mitch Webster and John Shelby will toil in the minors awaiting their first callup opportunities.

The Juggernauts plan is to get ducks on the pond and use the heavy lumber to clear the pond. Clemens and company will keep them in games long enough for this to happen. NYC Navigators Preseason Writeup

Named after the SUV, not after the longtime AA affilate of the NY Yankees (now of the SF Giants, I believe), these NYC Navigators are ready to roll. Here's a breakdown of the team position by position:

Despite drafting hitting with my first 5 picks, I got great value with my SPs, getting three very capable starters in Reuschel, Key and Drabek. Any one of them could turn in an ace-type of season. Cheapies Ruthven and Pastore will fill out the rest of my rotation, as I usually don't like spending too much on those last two spots. Hough and Bannister will head my AAA staff and are capable of greatness themselves. Other SPs down on the farm include Dotson, Keough, Beattie, Mathews and the much maligned Eric King.
[b:5daec35e45]Relief Pitching[/b:5daec35e45]
If I went cheap in any particular area of my team, the pen would probably be where I could've spent a little more dough. With no pitcher over 3 million on my big club, we're keeping our fingers crossed for some good cards. Of course, if either Willie Hernandez and/or Jeff Russell get any of their good seasons, it'll make things much easier on everyone else. From past experiences, I've seen them carry entire pitching staffs for stretches at a time. Leach, J. Robinson and Vande Berg round out the rest of the first team's pen. Mark Davis, my most expensive RP, will start the year in the minors....as will .75 wonders O. Jones, Farmer and Noles. Cerutti and Bailes, while capable of starting, will likely be the reduced to LH specialists, unless my SPs completely suck.

My all-time favorite SS, Barry Larkin (aka Cincinnati #11) will be the first team's starting SS no matter what happens. He's got rare 5-tool abilty at SS and at his worst, will be just a glove/speed man out there. Tommy Herr should be the regular 2B most of the time as well. His glove alone is invaluable, but his on-base skills and speed makes him an offensive threat too. In the event one of these guys get hurt, super sub Scott Fletcher can fill in either spot and not be an automatic out. Bill Almon is also in the mix, but will likely fill in wherever his lefty killing bat is needed. Speier, Backman and Browne are in the minors.

Platoon is the word of the day when describing this bunch. On-base machine Mike Hargrove will always bat leadoff and play 1B against RHP barring injury. Carmelo Martinez will have first crack at being his platoon mate, although Teufel (minors) and the aforementioned Almon may have something to say about that. Bonilla has hands of stone at 3B but believe it or not, that's where he is going to be playing. His bat is simply too good to keep out of the lineup. Art Howe will be in there early and often for his D and he'll also play against the tough LHP Bonilla can't handle. Cey will be closely hawking the 3B situation in case either Bonilla or Howe gets a bum card. D. Iorg will also be in the mix for added depth.

Lance Parrish will be the primary C. He provides Gold Glove D and a big time bat vs LHP. Petralli (+2 arm and all) will spell Parrish vs tough RHP or if Parrish has a down card vs RHP. Ashby and Quirk are there if Petralli can't handle the job. At DH, I've got a couple of guys who were practically made for the position. Easler and McRae are nothing but hit men and will be chomping at the bit to get their 4-5 hacks per game.

This is the true strength of my team. With Parker, E. Davis and Rice patrolling the outfield in Comiskey Park (and at some point, Memorial Stadium), I've got a certain peace of mind that everything will be alright :) And if everything isn't alright, I've got some nice depth out there as well. Gerald Young and Mr. Everything Bob Bailor will be the backups on the big club. In the minors, I have some OFs capable of starting on many other teams in Baker, Pasqua, Armas, Bumbry and Dernier. With this group, I really don't anticipate any having any problems that can't be fixed out there.

Because this was a live draft, I was able to get a lot of "my guys" and was able to cover myself in most areas. If my pen doesn't implode, I like my chances to put a winner on the field year after year.

Two themes for this Anaheim team: (1) "platoon," and (2) "you're friggin' joking, right?" The "platoon" theme? The Jablowmis will open with at least 3 platoons and could move quickly to 4. Theme #2 relates to a response provided by Owner/GM/Manager Haywood Jablowmi to the following statement, "you're going to have Whitt, Phelps, Smalley and Oquendo in your lineup for many, many years."
The roster shakeup has already begun with the Jablowmis shipping a disgruntled Bo Jackson ("Bo knows the Kingdome"), Nick Esasky, Dan Schatzeder, Dave Dravecky and someone Coach Jablowmi didn't know was on the roster, Hosken Powell, to Ugly Jerry for LH stalwart, Ron Guidry, Ron Comer and Warren "the Cro" Cromartie.

The Jablowmis went high here, spending more $ than usual. The staff is anchored by Bert Blyleven, but then quickly followed up by the R/L combination, Ron Guidry and Steve Rogers. There is also good depth in Scranton with Steve Kemp/Leon Roberts and a Jablowmi-favorite, Luis Polonia. Others that could conceivably see time include Dwayne Murphy, Gene Richards, Uncle Milty and Eddie Milner.

Everybody wants cheap RP. I am down to 5 .75 guys, so I am no longer flexible there. I'd trade Roger McDowell for a lefty RP under 3m.
Good luck finding a SS. My 2 guys are not moving to anybody. I have 10 *Sp now, so I would only consolidate at this stage.
I don't really see a fit for us BC, but I'll look over your team again for good measure.
