Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Single season games are more about luck

Mystery Card Format is the only pure SOM game out there. It is the only real way to show your managerial chops. Single season leagues (other than building for parks or pitchers as discussed above) are all about the dice rolls. Boring.

[quote:a07b8d728b="Paul_Long71"]Andre Dawson? was he in the 70s game?[/quote:a07b8d728b]

Yes. And Dawson's a tail-ender too.

So: Dawson, Murray, Winfield and Eck--all HOFers. You've got to be good to make all three decades. Will Rivera, Jeter, Manny and A-Rod--and who knows, maybe a couple of others— make 90's, 00's and 10's, assuming this is still going on that far ahead? Only time will tell, bu t for the four just mentioned it certainly seems possible.

Anyone else that we haven't thought of, for the 70s, 80s & 90s?

If, like ATG, the box scores have the dice rolls, it shouldn't take long to see which card you have.

I should have realized that, since I have actually looked at all three cards, but it didn't compute.

So now we have a non-HOFer. He's legit, too. Pitched 166.2 innings in 1977 and was a regular SP through most of the 90s. 23 big league seasons.

Actually, there's no reason why Nolan Ryan couldn't be a 90s pitcher. He had significant innings from 90 through 93. But they left him out. Nolan also pitched in 48 games in the '60s. 27 seasons! Amazing.

[quote:d29678626b="Outta Leftfield"]So far, I can think of HOFers Eddie Murray, Dave Winfield, and Dennis Eckersley as players who are in all 3 mystery card sets.

Eck is the only one who is at his best in the final decade--an amazing achievement in itself.

Am I missing anybody?[/quote:d29678626b]
Charlie Hough is in all three

Wow, Hough and Parrish! You might expect a knuckleballer but a catcher is surprising, and Parrish is legit for the 90, with four 90s seasons (however, he has only 2 70s seasons). Hough has 5 70s seasons and 3 90s--not bad! So we've got:

Dawson
Murray
Eck
Winfield
Dennis Martinez
Charlie Hough
Lance Parrish
