Is there any interest in an 80s auction league?

how does the bidding on a player end --- after that player has been "inactive", i.e. no bids tendered, for 24 hours? This could go on forever !!

How do we strategize to make sure we can get a "last look" at a player?

Looks like to me that the bidding on a player ends when his expiration time hits. For instance, last time I looked, it seemed that the bidding for Ken Phelps was closing on the 27th at about 10AM or so.

If no one exceeds that bid amount by 10 AM tomorrow then the bidding goes "closed" on him and the manager wins him outright.

If someone does bid on Phelps then the new manager is the high bidder but a new expiration date is listed and he moves towards the bottom of the list.

Whatever players are at the top of the screen in the "view all outstanding bids" screen are the ones that are due to expire first. Bidding on the guys at the top of the list will create a new expiration date for them.

If I am wrong in my explanation, please someone correct me.

Lastly, here's my question:

:?: What does "Factor" mean in the database listing :?: It is right next to the players' salaries.

I can't believe that TSN won't work with you Penn when it comes to your terms and integrating your draft tool with their Strat-O line. :?

I think most people agree in all the formats that the draft is 70% of the fun of a game or better.

This is my first auction draft and I can already tell that this is going to be a blast. Even the live draft one is a blast with the proxy picks.

It beats the crap out of the crappy old autodraft card any day of the week.

Thanks for hosting such wonderful tools for the community.

More Questions:

Postby bjs73 » Mon Dec 26, 2005 8:41 pm

[quote:c022bcf4bc]6. The primary auction ends when we all have valid TSN draft cards, we then draft our league and the auction drop/add is allowed. You can drop a player on the auction site but we have a rule that you can not rebid on that player, this stops people from dropping player and rebidding on him to reduce their $$$ cost on him

7. Trading is allowed AFTER the auction, please do not discuss trade option during the auction. We dont want any sort of collusion, example I bid on a SS for you and trade him later to you if you bid on the RF expiring right now.

8. Now here is the interesting part, you can not just pick up players during the season. You must first win them on the auction site. The auction is always on for the league, preseason and throughout the season. bids are only 6 hours in length during the preseason and season though so there is only a small window for someone to overbid you on a player. Thats the fun part of the 80s auction If you want to get a guy on your team before 10 pm that is avialable (not won by anyone else on the auction site) you have to bid on him before 4 pm to win him for 10 pm, if not just make sure he is not on your team that night[/quote:c022bcf4bc]

A question regarding item 6: If we draft 33 position players in the primary draft, then we own the rights to guys that didn't make our autodraft card after the season starts? Sort of like a reserve team? So if I don't have room for a third catcher on my autodraft card but I won him at the auction site, he's be on the free agent wire until I purchased his contract, correct?

Also, if we make a roster change in mid-season. Say I drop Kemp (won at the primary auction) for Seitzer (also won at the primary auction), do I then lose my rights to Kemp and he's open for bidding of his services via the auction site mid-season?

*****

Also, regarding item #8: 180 million in salary cap at the auction site is all we have for the entire season?

So does that mean if I get a bad card and want to bid services mid-season for a new position player, I will be limited in my bidding by how much cash I have left over from the primary auction?

Sean, good questions :D

bjs, answered them really well but I will answer anyways....

this is a common statement and actually some hate the auction process because of this possiblity. Yes a player could last for 20 days or more if two people bid him up .5 mil each day at the 23rd hour. In reality this doesnt happen since we open 72 players per day so in essence we "flood" the market with players. This first forces people to spend more of their money across more players and, second this forces people to worry about multiple players instead of one which will reduce a player being bid up for long extended periods.

As I posted before we started, we wont have any players expiring the first couple of days. We are opening players and we have lots of cash right now which will be used to bid up players to their right levels. If you want a player bad enough and you want win them early, bid lots of money :D :D

I always click on all oustanding bids, I look who is expiring soon or who is expiring before I can get back online to check. eg...if I cant get for the next 6 hours, I check to see who is expiring in that time frame and I will decide to bid on them.

Sometimes we will get caught with lots of bids and no cash (Well I will ;)) and I might lose out on some players but that is the price I pay.

yes, its a reserve team that only you can use.

even if you drop Kemp from your TSN team you still own him until you drop him from the auction site.

Yes, if you have 33 bids owned already and/or you have no cash left. You will need to drop a player from your auction team to make room for the new player

Does dropping a player at the auction site give you a credit back to your 180 million salary cap? Preseason and midseason? Or is it a different rule set for both?

Just trying to avoid making some huge mistakes when managing my cash.

For instance, if I was to win a bid on a position player in the primary auction @ 32 million, if I dropped him at the auction site due to poor performance in mid-season, would I earn a credit back on any of that salary?

I'm guessing that the answer is "no" but I could be wrong.

You would get all 32 mil back.
