Hey YF

If canauscot has submitted his ballot does that mean we will be hearing the results soon?

I'm all excited! :D

I like it.

I voted for all the 7 of the top vote getters and 2 of the next 3, so those results line up with what I saw.

Does that mean all those guys stay eligible (over 5%) and all the unnamed have to wait for the veteran's committee?

Interesting. I voted for 9 of the top 10 guys (didn't vote for Oglivie). I'm disappointed Seaver didn't make it in, his low win total hurt him.

I'm not sure how many of the players who didn't make it in will get voted in eventually, as we'll have a stream of long-lived players retiring in the next few years that will clog up the ballots with better or similar stats . Here's a quick list of 1984-1985 retirees that I think will get some consideration (stars next to guys I think are locks to make it):

Reggie Jackson*
Rod Carew
Cesar Cedeno
Ron Cey
Davey Concepcion
Bobby Grich
George Hendrick
Dave Kingman
Ted Simmons
Andre Thornton
Steve Carlton*
Dan Quisenberry
Bruce Sutter
Don Sutton*
Tony Armas *( )

And poor Joe Morgan. Biggest contract in the league and zero hall-of-fame votes at the end of his career...

I'm just curious if the position played is factored into the voting? Munson hit a consistent .293 and half his seasons with 30+ homers at the catcher position. Not saying he deserves to get in over others, just surprised he only got 2 votes.

I didn't vote for Thurman, but definitely considered him and Bowa because of their positions. However, Munson's OPS was .825 (which obviously is good, but all the other hitters I voted for were at .900+), and he only had 100 RBI once. Also, I guess I don't give as much a discount for lesser hitting at Catcher as I would a SS or CF (or maybe 2B). That being said, Munson was stunningly consistent and surprisingly powerful, and arguably has outperformed Fisk, Carter, and Simmons.

Munson

Postby jsam9801 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:37 pm

The Goats PR team will need to state its HOF case for Mr. Munson to the voters before the next election.

He dominated the C position throughout the 1970s. He should be measured against his peers at the C position, and in our opinion, he dominated his peers at that position for the whole decade.

Munson may make it, he may not, but the hall has to be hard to get into. However it is hard to disagree with the three that did make it.
