Btt70s new gameplay model...?

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Postby Jimmy_C » Mon Nov 06, 2006 7:15 pm

It seems like you could have two 70's games. One for the single-card player (pick the best year for all of the cards I suppose) and one for the mystery card player. Give an option of which one you want to draft for when you buy the team. Of course...then theoretically, leagues will take twice as long to fill up. :(

As long as the single-card players already have a lot of choices for single-card games (and plenty of options to spend their money on), why not just "throw a bone" to us mystery card players and make it the mystery card 70's...and call it a day.

Here is my $.02

I love BC's first suggestion of drafting at the highest price and getting a discount after the reveal (YF is right, pure Genius - I think BC stands for Big Cranium) The second suggestion - not so much.

The only other way to appeal to the ATGers is to just have a best card/worst Card - Fixed priced option. I wouldn't play it but it seems like something the ATGers would like a lot more.

One other Idea would be only for Private Leagues only - That would be to fill the League, reveal the mystery cards with the salaries, then everyone puts in their draft list. This is something that I may play in, but i am pretty sure that I would rather be mystery carding.

It is all about the ability to generate revenue and the ATGer's spend a lot of money on their game. I'd like to the the mystery pure, but if I was TSM/SOM I'd want to get some of the ATG business too.

On the other side of this, I'd play more ATG games if they had a mystery card format too.

[quote:2ec3938500="Mav 1"]You could have an option where after X number of games, one of the 5 cards are revealed as as one of the cards you don't have. [color=blue:2ec3938500][b:2ec3938500]So after game 42, you find out one card you don't have. After game 81, one more is revealed, and so on[/b:2ec3938500].[/color:2ec3938500] [/quote:2ec3938500]
[b:2ec3938500]This is my favorite solution![/b:2ec3938500] :D

KISS

Keep is Simple.

I like the mystery feature. Yes, you can add bells and whistles, but in the end I still like the way the game basically is.

If you're going to spend time and resources I'd prefer you spend them on HAL and having more gamplay options; especially for pitching.

I want my LH releif specialist to come in for one batter and not go two innings even when I have him on Quick pull, don't face righties and 1 inning.

I think refining your pricing filters would also be a much better solution.

I know I'm not the longest playing owner in these leagues, but as someone that has worked in professional sports in a statistical field I can tell you that some of the salaries don't make enough sense to get the players used.

I think that by refining player salaries it would be more interesting; especially for pitchers.

Right now I see far too many owners, including myself chasing .75 deals and certain other lottery pick players. That skews the results league wide and can reduce enthusiasm when each league starts to mimic itself.

By factoring in a few filters for your pricing formulas I think you can make this a much more interesting gaming experience.

That's all for now and thanks for a fun game either way,

Jamie

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I see some good ones but I don't have the time to be giving my analysis on all of them. I'm here to say this:

I am going to focus on getting only the core Mystery Card format ready for launch, and any new ideas for gameplay models would be considered only after that.
