to where the full text of the rules are. (Or are the rules in the first post of this thread the only rules for this league).

Also, I'd like someone to answer the following questions:

[quote:180b0d7ea5]When you say, may spend, shouldn't that read, must spend, otherwsie, it means I may spend it but I don't have to....I know this is a technicality, but I don't want to find out later that I could exceed the salary restrictions for any reason.
[/quote:180b0d7ea5]

[quote:180b0d7ea5]Also, when it is said a player can play out of position to qualify for the 3 or higher fielding, does this mean I can take a player with a 1 fielding and play him out of position, so if I take a hitting team, all of the hitters would be available to me, whereas if I took a pitching team only the 1 & 2 fielding hitters are available?

Q: Or are the rules in the first post of this thread the only rules for this league).

>> Yes, those are the rules

Q: When you say, may spend, shouldn't that read, must spend, otherwsie, it means I may spend it but I don't have to....I know this is a technicality, but I don't want to find out later that I could exceed the salary restrictions for any reason.

>>This is the MAX you can spend. You can of course spend less.

Q:Also, when it is said a player can play out of position to qualify for the 3 or higher fielding, does this mean I can take a player with a 1 fielding and play him out of position, so if I take a hitting team, all of the hitters would be available to me, whereas if I took a pitching team only the 1 & 2 fielding hitters are available?

>> You are basically correct, but not ALL the hitters are available. For a hitting team guys like Eric Davis, Tony Gwynn, Robin Yount, Andre Dawson, etc, can only DH because they have no positions where the range is greater than three. Likewise pitching team can only DH guys like Kevin Mitchel, Darryl Strawberry, HoJo, etc. Guy like Tim Raines and play CF and Brett SS or Schmidt 1B can play out of position.

In Strat-O-Matic can a player only play the position(s) on his card? Or if say you take Lou Whitaker (who should only be listed as a 2B) and play him in Centerfield, wil the game allow you to do this and it jut gives him a fiedling rating of "4", or the game will not alow you to do this since "CF" is not a position on his card?

And just to make sure I understand what you are saying, with regards to DH's, if I choose the "Hitting Team", I can have anyone no matter what their fielding rating is, be a DH. So whereas a fielder can only be 3 or 4's (not including catchers), the DH can be anyone?

Lastly, are you playing with any Stud rules in this league? If so, what are they?

I'm sorry for all of these questions, this would be my first league ever, and I want to make sure I dont screw it up for anyone. I'll understand if you rather I didn't take a team and you had more than a novice playing, just let me know.

Adam, best to clarify before you jump in. So I'll try to answer:

[quote:18bd9408f6]

Yes. You can pick Brett and put him in the lineup at SS, since it's on his card. But you can't put him at 2B. This only happens sometimes due to flukes with injuries, and is out of your control. So, only pick Brett, for example if you plan to make him your SS.

[quote:18bd9408f6]So whereas a fielder can only be 3 or 4's (not including catchers), the DH can be anyone? [/quote:18bd9408f6]

Correct. So if you take Eric Davis for example, he can only ever start at DH. You can't set him as your CF, if you're the hitting team.

Likewise, pitching teams can select 3 or 4 range players as DH's. But similarly, if I have Ken Phelps on my pitching team, he can only ever be set as a DH. Occasionally the system may put someone in a posiiton unexpectedly due to injury (last time round I had a pitching team and the system put UL Washington in CF due to injuries -- but I couldn't set him in the lineup there. It was out of my control, so allowed.)

[quote:18bd9408f6]

No stud rules. You can pick whoever fits under the rules and salary cap.

As for it being your first team, as I see it, that's up to you. You may want to start with a simple autodraft team, but sometimes these theme leagues with a twist can lead to success with a rookie. I have no problem with you joining.

Unless I'm mistaken, we still need 1 more manager to complete the league.

During the season, how many players must be kept on a roster at all times?

23 -- same as basic TSN rules; 10 pitchers, 13 hitters, 2 Catchers, 5 SP's, 5 RP's.

Hey, isn't there a rule that pitching teams can have 3's for backups, within a salary limit? Iceman? YF?

Crazy Question, I know but if I have a pitching team, I

Postby AdamPhoenix » Mon Oct 24, 2005 4:49 pm

understand the total of my hitters can not exceed $31M. However, when does that kick in? I mean, is it as long as when the regular season starts I am not over $31M I am fine even though on my draft card or even after the draft my hitters total $31M? Or when I fill out the draft card, I need to make sure the total of my 15 hitters I am putting down are below $31M?

Being a pitching team you need to have legal backup also. I know this was a sticky point because it is hard to do, but I think most P teams pulled it off. O know I did. You can have someone like A Griffin who is a 2 as SS and 4 a 2b. I think you may not be able to backup EVERY position with a 1 or 2, but you can probally get backups who qualifies at one position.
