"I agree completely with the Braves. A total steal at 15. On the other hand, the first pick of the pair, the Tigers, seems like a giant reach at 10th. Maybe Alan is from the Motor City, Motown, Paris of the Midwest? Neither Detroit or Atlanta had a decent SS in the 70s."
Strat-o-matic is a game of strategy, and this site does a good job of allowing its players to employ real-life strategy for choosing players, ballparks, lineups, pitching rotation, managerial strategy.
Likewise, there is all kinds of strategy that each of us are using to pick our MLB teams. That's why I thought it would be cool to create a web page that shows all of the players available to each of the MLB teams. Looking thru the teams, I can see how some teams would be more appealing than others, depending on the type of team each owner would like to build. I had my reasons for picking the Tigers, but at #10 I was really looking at the Twins and Braves, too. I guess I will be weak at SS, and this may cost me.
The draft will be interesting too, since there is a lot of overlap with players belonging on two or more teams. Everyone will probably get players they wanted and not get other players they wanted. This will likely cause weaknesses that we all will need to deal with.
I played several seasons of the ATG and all of my teams were mostly awful. Then I switched to the '70's and my 1st team won the wild card spot on the last games of the regular season, finishing 91-71. This team went on to upset the team with the best record in the 1st round and ended up losing the 7th game of the championship 7-6. My next team went 71-91. The team in this league will be only my 5th 70's team, so I'm no expert.
