sogcommando question

Postby gmac94 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:04 am

I need a final question clarified, may already have been, but its good to ask...
I think sogcommando posted this on another thread, by mistake:

Let's say I win Dave Parker, Sixto Lezcanso, Dewey Evans, Eric Davis, Reggie Jackson, Lenny Dykstra, Andy Van Slyke, Gorman Thomas, Dale Murphy, Von Hayes, and Tony Gwynn. (Highly unlikely, I listed this many so I won't give away my possible draft strategy). If I found a way to play everyone of them, could I? In other words, I know the league is set up for $200 million, but are we actually only going to field an 80 million dollar team on the field, with the extra room designed to be able to draft our bench?

Thanks.

I've settled on bids for 37 players, need to figure out my holes and who the other three will be.

My answer, but I would defer to canauscot for the definitive answer:

I believe that there is no salary restriction on the players you have on your "active roster" at any time.

Whoa, I need to see an answer for this before I do bids. Are we playing an $80 million cap? I assumed we were and that the extra space in the $200 was just to cancel out the 5-10-20 penalty, but now I look back and I don't see that written.

I assumed that the only cap we were going to have was the 200M cap, and at anytime we could have over 80M of players on our SOM rosters.

I read it the same way as Yellow Dog.

And realistically, it will be highly unlikely that you will be able to win bids for eight or nine high impact players, since the high success rate of the players in this game will find the value picks and bid them up.

From my calculations, the players sog listed are priced at $70M - if you bid a modest premium of 10% on them, they will cost you $77M, leaving $51M for 29 players or $1.75M per player for a pitching staff and a bench.

Its a calculated risk to take ... and is certainly a high risk, high reward gamble.

Thats why I think this concept is very interesting and can't wait to see the first round results.

Virtually unrestricted salary

Postby canauscot » Wed Sep 27, 2006 9:29 pm

The intent is that you will be able to deploy any of your 40 players on your active roster regardless of salary up to the usual roster limits (28?).

No $80M limit will exist. The nominal bid cap of $128M is based on the typical $80M - 25 man roster so that your team is likely to have a similar flavour, but that doesn't restrict you from playing your best players, whatever salary they happen to have.

The $200M limit does allow for 5%, 10%, 20% penalties but also permits carrying more players than typical as well as making uneven salary trades (when a $6M worst year player is considered fair value for a best year $3M player).

Does that all make sense?
